  • Editorial Review:
Brenda's back. Finally accepted by her LAPD homicide team after a year of hard-won victories, Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson spends less time fighting her co-workers and more time fighting the bad guys - like whoever left a body in Provenza's garage, or dropped a porn star's head in a dumpster, or offed a drug-addicted heiress. And there's almost as much happening on the domestic scene as the crime scene: Gabriel and Daniels kindle a romance and Brenda and Fritz put the flame under theirs when Fritz moves in. Kyra Sedgwick reprises her acclaimed role of Brenda and makes her the brilliant, complex, flawed, funny and totally irresistible heart of this crime-series powerhouse. Clue yourself in!

Description of The Closer - The Complete Second Season:
Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson may have put in a year already with the Los Angeles police department, but that doesn't mean the transplanted Southerner fits in yet. In the second season of the TNT drama The Closer, Brenda is less a fish out of water, but she's still not completely at home with her brash colleagues--some of whom resent her potent mixture of brains and beauty. All 15 episodes from the 2006-2007 are included in this four-disc box set. And aside from a couple episodes where viewers are able to correctly guess the ending about 20 minutes into the show, the cases are taut, provocative, and highly watchable. Much of the show's success is due to Kyra Sedgwick (The Woodsman, Something to Talk About), an actress who seemed poised for movie stardom before she took time off to raise a family with husband Kevin Bacon. As bull-headed as she is soft-hearted, Brenda has a wry sense of humor and delivers her punch lines with a gentle drawl. But don't mistake gentility for gullibility: Cross her and you've made an enemy for life. Even when she's stuck in sitcom-like situations--such as trying to hide from her mother that she's living with her boyfriend--Brenda brings believability to her situation. From the first episode (dealing with the investigation of a brutally murdered police officer) to the last (Brenda's attempt to bring down a terrorist organization), Sedgwick is riveting; no wonder, then, that the Golden Globes honored her in 2007 as best actress in a TV drama. Rounding out the cast are J.K. Simmons (The Spider-Man franchise) as Assistant Chief Will Pope, Jon Tenney (Fools Rush In) as her boyfriend Fritz, and Anthony John Denison (Wild Things) as hard-nosed Detective Andy Flynn. --Jae-Ha Kim

The Closer - The Complete Second Season Reviews:
The Closer - second season 5 Star Review
2009-10-07 - I love The Closer and had not seen the Second Season and could not find it in any of the stores. It is great ordering from amazon.com as the product arrived very quickly. Now I just sit back and enjoy the show!!

    GREAT show. 5 Star Review
2009-09-13 - What else do I need to say? This is a great show, and I enjoy watching it every week. I'm glad I was able to catch up on old episodes by getting the previous seasons on DVD, and Amazon had the best price on them as usual!

    Too Annoying 2 Star Review
2009-08-06 - I am not giving this series 1 star only because the stories therein are not completely lost. I don't watch much TV, only when someone else is watching TV and I am just hanging out. I caught this a few times, and I can clasify this as a comedy.

Why a comedy? Kyra Sedgwick's character reminds me of a bobblehead doll with a short fuse. It seems like she may become the perp at any given time. She is a hotheaded blonde with an annoying voice. Her voice is gruff and she kind of reminds me of a man, not all the time 'but what a masculine woman' comes to mind at times. It's hit or miss really, her character just does not strike me as very feminine. This character has a lot to do with my rating of the show because when I had first seen this, I realized that she was in it a lot then comcluded that she is the main character which stricken me with disbelief.

This is a comedy because I laugh every time she completely blows her lid at someone she is interogating, she does not just yell, her blood vessels just about pop out of her bobblehead and her eyes look like they are going to pop out of their sockets. Goodness, what a firecracker this one is. This is vaguely entertaining, considering the fact that this person who I cannot take seriously on this show is having a yelling spell at a perp, to the point of vehement angst. Can't blame her for making her job personal.

If you are into comedy I would suggest this, but other than that stay away.

Awesome Series ! 5 Star Review
2009-07-28 - This is one of the best shows on TV. Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda is fantastic, and the rest of the excellent cast has great chemistry. These well written episodes elicit amazing performances, with lots of sparkling humor. Brilliant mystery/crime series with terrific acting and direction !!

a excellent show 5 Star Review
2009-05-18 - that is able to pickup where it left off in the first season. The Closer follows Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgewick as she leads us through the inner workings of closing a case. Filled with drama, intrigue, emotion and sometimes downright funny situations. It works because it shows us how the job affects each and every person involved in the process. From her sometimes live in boyfriend, to her mom and her suprise visit, to the cat that comes in and out of the house on a regular basis, to her coworkers.

The Closer really works for so many people, it's an all around great show that should only continue to get better with each season and as this show ended (SPOILER) With her taking down a terrorist organization among them.(END SPOILER). It will keep you coming back and wanting more. I plan on purchasing Season 3 very soon. Excellent show that should be watched by any interested in checking out something with substance, style and wit all mixed in.
