Nearly 40 summers ago on August 31, 1970, 35-year-old Leonard Cohen was awakened at 2 a.m. from a nap in his trailer and brought onstage to perform with his band at the third annual Isle Of Wight music festival. The audience of 600,000 was in a fiery and frenzied mood, after turning the festival into a political arena, trampling the fences, setting fire to structures and equipment - and stoked by the most incendiary performance of Jimi Hendrix's career.

As Cohen followed Hendrix's set, onlookers (and fellow festival headliners) Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins and others stood side-stage in awe as the Canadian folksinger-songwriter-poet-novelist quietly tamed the crowd. Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Murray Lerner (From Mao To Mozart, Festival, Message To Love), perfectly captured Cohen's performance. Likewise, Columbia Records staff A&R producer Teo Macero did a brilliant job of supervising the live audio recording.

This Blu-ray, transferred from the original 16mm film into High Definition, contains this new, beautiful film documentary by Lerner featuring interviews with fellow festival performers and Cohen's classic songs, poetry and stories.

Isle of Wight (Amazon.com Exclusive) [Blu-ray] Reviews:
Live at the Isle of Wight 5 Star Review
2009-12-18 - Excellent concert. Almost makes me feel I'm there with the crowd! I've been a fan since the 60's. Leonard Cohen is as entertaining as ever! Great CD. I highly recommend it to fans and newcomers.

Leonard at his best! 5 Star Review
2009-11-27 - All of us who love LC already know of his lyrics and of his personal style marked by his humility. He utilized his gifts to connect with and mesmerize 600,000 discontented and frustrated people. I loved seeing this concert as it helpe me gain a broader perspective of what the Isle of Wight was about. If you love LC then this is a must.

Isle of Weight Magic 4 Star Review
2009-11-26 - If you are either a new LC fan or have been for 40 + years this is an excellent DVD.
My daughter saw Cohen live this spring and really enjoyed the show. However when I showed her the DVD from 1970 she saw the power he had at that time. an amazing career spanning 40 years, and this brings back memories when these songs were new and fresh.

The Man Who Calmed The Storm 5 Star Review
2009-11-21 - At last, living history on dvd where Cohen calms the hungry ,restless and angry crowd with his serene music and peaceful interpretation of life centered around his love and care for his fellow man -especially those who anguish.
One of a kind footage that has never been equalled by anybody ,in my opinion.
    Lovingly filmed and beautifully produced.
Not to be missed by any Cohenites and anybody seeking a peaceful time to peruse this wonderfully put together product.

    /l. Cohan 1 Star Review
2009-11-20 - I Would gladly give a review of the L. Cohan CD, however I have net received it yet. Please check your mailing records. I did receive the Dylan CD-it is certainly different from any of Dylans other CD's. I have almost all of Dylans CD's-this is not the norm of Dylan. Still worth listening and purchasing.
