Editorial Review:
LeToya Luckett, professionally known as LeToya, is an R&B singer-songwriter and actress, and a founding member of the multi-platinum-selling female R&B group, Destiny's Child, with whom she won two Grammy Awards and released many successful commercial recordings.
LeToya's 2006 debut self-titled solo album for Capitol Records reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums in July 2006 and was RIAA-certified Platinum (Dec 2006). The first single, "Torn", heated up BET's 106 & Park Top 10 video countdown, eventually closing out at #2, and that year LeToya was named "one of the best new artists of 2006" (AOL) and "Top Songwriter of 2006" (ASCAP).
In 2009, LeToya returns with her sophomore album, Lady Love. An intricate web of lyrical & melodic fiber that weaves in and out of the good, the bad, and the indifferent, Lady Love is a true testament to the ups and downs that come with love and relationships. "Not Anymore", written and produced by Ne-Yo, is an empowering mantra about being fed up with toxic relationships with a cleverly-scripted, powerful video set in the revolutionary period of the 1960s (directed by Bryan Barber).
Other album highlights include LeToya's heart-wrenching, soulful rendition of the ballad "Regret", and works her way up from mid- to up-tempo tracks like the title track "Lady Love". Pop-influenced songs like "Drained" and the follow up track "She Ain't Got...", written by Chris Brown display LeToya's passion and vocal range.
LeToya lays down a new chapter in her musical diary with Lady Love.
Lady Love [CLEAN] Reviews:
LeToya is underrated and underappreciated
2009-12-06 - It seems like nowadays it's hard for singers to escape the worldwide shadow cast by Beyonce Knowles. It would seem to be even harder if you were in a group with her like Ms. LeToya Luckett. Even though she possesses the singing talent and beauty of a star as well as great songs to match, she just isn't recognized as being such. However, along with Amerie and a few others, LeToya is underappreciated for the contribution she brings to R&B music. However, it is amazing that she has carved a niche for herself consider the circumstances and on her second album Lady Love she looks to expand beyond her Texas roots.
She has a hand in writing every song which is a plus. LeToya has a certain subtlety and sweetness to her voice which shines on midtempos, ballads, slow jams and quiet storm type songs. Someone else smart noticed this too since the amount of uptempo songs have been greatly reduced as compared to her debut album. Her attempts at uptempo, in my opinion, have been failures and on this album its After Party, She Aint Got and Lady Love. She just doesn't excel in it.
Tank and Warren Oak have a heavy hand in this album (which would explain the slower tempo songs where she shines). Ryan Leslie also contributes some of his magic to the album as well as few other producers. Ludacris and Estelle are featured on the album as well as MIMS. Why MIMS is on the album is anybody's wild guess.
Lady Love is a good follow up to LeToya's debut and easy to say that if she continues making quality records like this one she will slowly get the respect she deserves. 4 stars.
Great R&B Album. Reccomended
2009-10-20 - There are some great lyrics on this Album; great songwriting in terms of R&B music.
My favorite songs are:
Regret
She Ain't Got
Lazy (great lyrics)
I Need A U
After Party (good lyrics)
TRUE RNB...LOVE IT!
2009-10-09 - LeToya has really captured true rnb on this 2nd offering! I love the entire CD and hope she gets to relaunch this album, so many others will find a true treasure in music. The confidence is there, stronger vocals and it's intimate, classy, soft, pretty, lyrical and not just hook singing, but real vocals set to music instead of vocals over tracks with hot beats.
I hope she doesn't allow the business to get her down or naysayers' delight in her struggle to shake her, but to stay in her spiritual wrap and continue to stand back and allow God to deliver uncommon provisions, uncommon promotions, indeed!
Go LeToya!!!
Delightful Music
2009-10-01 - I love this CD album because it is exceptional for unwinding for the day and sublime for accompanying one's exercise workout. I totally recommend its purchase!
Fantastic!
2009-09-25 - If you liked her debut album, you'll love this one! Ms. Toya's voice has matured, she sounds so good and confident too! There are a good variety of slow, mid-tempo, and up-tempo tracks and her content is real yet fresh. I love this album and hope she goes platinum again...please support her!
