  • Editorial Review:
This docudrama, presented by Faith & Values Media, takes a new look at one of the best-loved and least-understood icons of world religion. The story of the real St. Patrick is part adventure tale and part spiritual awakening, with the future saint rising from slave to liberator; learning to forgive and ultimately love his enemies; taking up a cause no one believed in; and finally lighting a fire that kept western civilization alive. His legacy has had an impact not only on Ireland, where he was able to forge a ground-breaking synthesis of Christian faith and Celtic traditions, but also on all of civilization.

This portrayal of the life of Patrick, who lived in the fifth century, was shot on location in Ireland, using actors in period dress to recreate scenes from Patrick’s life. It features the voices of two of Ireland’s top actors, with narration by Liam Neeson, and Gabriel Byrne as the voice of Patrick. On-camera commentary is provided by Frank McCourt, renowned Irish-American author of Angela’s Ashes, who offers keen insight into how a foreign evangelical would have interacted with the Irish. Additional commentary is provided by noted scholars and authors.

People of all faiths will find this an enthralling and challenging story.

    SPECIAL FEATURES:
    • Chapter titles provided for easy scene access
    • Commentary from Frank McCourt, author of Angela’s Ashes
    • Commentary from producer/director Pamela Mason Wagner
    • Music and Image Montage
    • Patrick and Reluctant Saint: Francis of Assisi trailers

Patrick - All Region DVD Reviews:
Patrick: Separating Fact from Fiction 3 Star Review
2007-03-18 - Likable from start to finish, 'Patrick' seems like most narrated cable documentaries one sees. Narrated by Liam Neeson, the movie is filmed with gorgeous Irish landscape and reinacted reasonably well by little know actors. Separating fact from fiction in the history of St. Patrick's life is their mission. Partly biography experts from historians to authors expound about his life. Fascinating and worthy subject matter, even clocking in at 53 minutes. There are special features as well, including a short interview with author, Frank McCount.

Solid, Educational, Entertaining, Excellent Music & Scenery 5 Star Review
2005-10-18 - There are two 21st century dvds on the life of St. Patrick. Both are good for what they are. You must decide which is best for you.

First a tidbit of trivia concerning Patrick's life. Patrick wrote letters and a bio explaining his life. He lived about the turn of the 5th century. During the 7th century legends arose concerning his life that include numerous tales of miracles (the greatest of which was his driving the snakes out of Ireland). Enough said.

If you want an excellent docudrama that highlights the historical Patrick, this is the dvd for you. It is excellent in every way and much more entertaining that most docudramas. I don't think you will be disappointed.

If, however, you want a more theatrical presentation that includes the legends of the 7th century, choose ST. PATRICK, THE IRISH LEGEND. This is a fun "feel good" drama that should play well especially to children. The special effects leave some to be desired (see my review on that dvd), but it is much more of a "movie" than a "Documentary".

I own both, but my personal choice is the docudrama. I personally think real life is ever so much more exciting than fiction.
