  • Editorial Review:
Vision Quest is a coming of age movie in which high school wrestler Louden Swain (Matthew Modine) decides he wants to be something more than an average high school athlete and sets his sights on a prize that many don't think he can win -- he then sets out to reach his goal alone, without much support from his father or coach. His father rents a room to a young drifter, Carla (Linda Fiorentino). Swain falls in love with her and she helps him stay focused and prevents him from losing sight of his goals. Although a lower-budget film than Flashdance or Top Gun, this movie is similar in theme and style. Madonna makes her first appearance in a major motion picture as a lead singer in a local band performing her hit songs "Crazy For You" and "Gambler".

    Description of Vision Quest:
This film wraps up the big wrestling match that Terry Davis's novel left unresolved. It also makes Carla (Linda Fiorentino, in her screen debut) less of a bad girl. What it does capture is the book's flowing feeling of power and the possibility of youth. Probably best known for presenting a just-emerging Madonna singing "Crazy for You," Vision Quest also uses Matthew Modine nicely. He doesn't typify the usual coming-of-age youth, but his character, Louden Swain, isn't the typical youth, period. Swain needs to win the Washington State wrestling championship, and he's up against a guy who carries logs up stadium steps. He's also involved with an older woman, Carla, and learning that love and all that stuff is much harder than pinning an opponent. Ah, youth. --Keith Simanton

    Vision Quest Reviews:
    Wonderful gift 5 Star Review
2009-10-30 - This was a gift for my brother who turned 59. It was his favorite movie and as I knew he loved the gift. Also the sound track was an added bonus. As always Amazon is the only way to find great gifts. Reliable and fast shipping.

The movie is great, but... 4 Star Review
2009-09-15 - The movie is really five stars, but this release has problems. First of all the movie needs to be remastered, as it is a bit grainy and faded. Additionally, the case is cardboard and is not very durable. There is not even a decent video menu. But, it is a great move, especially if you were a wrestler.

    Not Happy 1 Star Review
2009-08-23 - I received the movie and it was loose in the case and scratched... The case was also broken! Amazon should have used a padded envelope instead of two pieces of cardboard....

DVD average...movie above average...in fact best wrestling movie out there 4 Star Review
2009-08-12 - The DVD is average at best, but the movie is excellent. Mathew Modine, who has been around for a long time and has been in his share of flicks, portrays a young high school wrestler in this 1985 flick. He has to wrestle with his share of problems on and off the wrestling mat.The movie shows what a prep wrestler goes through as he prepares for matches and battles weight issues to keep himself in a certain weight class...a single pound over could keep him from competing.Of course,Modine's character has to make plenty of moves off the mat as well as...let's just say he has an older woman issue. A must see for former or current high school wrestlers. And for you "love bugs" out there, you'll love it, too.

    Bad Quality 1 Star Review
2009-05-14 - I ordered this for my husband and recieved a DVD that is far to scratched to even play in a player. Unfortunatly my husband never told me how bad it was so I didn't think I could returned it after so long. Basically he never even had a chance to watch it. comes in cheap cardboard box case, no wonder its in bad shape.
