Editorial Review:
Whoever said absence makes the heart grow fonder must ve been thinking about the relationship between Lita Ford and rock n roll. The hard rock queen stepped away from her remarkable musical career back in the 1990s to devote herself to family and the surroundings of real life on a surreal Caribbean island, but with the call of the sonic wild getting louder and louder, she made the decision to dive back in at the deep end only to find that she had every bit as much love for the heavy rock grind. And as it turns out, the feeling is mutual.
With Wicked Wonderland , her first full-length offering since 1995 s Black , Lita shows that her flair for sexy, stomping, searing sounds has only gotten more vivid which is mighty impressive, given a history that includes such classics as Kiss Me Deadly and the Ozzy Osbourne duet Close My Eyes Forever. This release, created in tandem with husband Jim Gillette whose own musical history is highlighted by his work with acclaimed metallurgists Nitro is a hard and heavy affirmation of the sensuality and smarts that ve carried her through three decades of action.
The 11 cuts certainly touch on the sort of headbang-inducing riffage that gave Lita her start way back when, but there are also surprises aplenty from the smoking slide guitar that punctuates the bluesy Scream to the psychedelic industrial swirl that envelops Everything. It s a potent blend, propelled by in-your-face drumming and Lita s effortlessly steamy vocals.
With pelvis-pounding rhythms and lascivious lyrics of tunes like the appropriately-titled Indulge and the so-nasty-it s-nice Crave , Lita shows off her trademark ability to purr seductively and deliver a well-placed knockout punch on no-holds-barred songs like Piece (Hell Yeah) . Wicked Wonderland showcases an artist who s clearly got plenty to say and no shortage of ways to say it. This is the deluxe gatefold LP version with alternate cover!
Wicked Wonderland Reviews:
Love it!
2009-12-30 - I was listening to Eddie Trunk a few months ago when he announced that Lita would be on.
I was very surprised because I hadn't heard anything from her in 10 + years.
Well, she came on (and her husband too) and they sounded real cool.
Eddie played a few tracks and I was blown away, the songs were amazing.
I got the album right before Halloween and it's been permanently in my car, ipod, and computer since.
In my opinion, this is the best of old and new school. The songs are great and sound very current.
The guitar solos are totally old school Lita. She's always been the baddest b*&%h to ever play a guitar and she still is!
Wicked Wonderland includes 15 smoking songs and they're full songs. Not 10 real songs with a bunch of fluff they named to appear like more.
I like every single song with CRAVE being my #1. I almost hate saying that though because the other songs all kick it too.
Another thing that you should know is the packaging is incredible.
The artwork is phenomenal, the booklet is huge, and you can spend hours looking at it and will continually find new things.
I know because I've done it!
I missed her on the Queensryche tour as I didn't know she was on the bill.
I hope to see her in 2010 so I can see some of these done live.
A new co-worker saw her on Halloween night and said she was awesome.
Wicked Wonderland = 2 thumbs way up! Easily my favorite release of '09.
1 of 2 CD's I got for Christmas!
2009-12-30 - I also got Megadeth and loved that one too.
I have to say though that these songs are much better.
I know I know, they are 2 different animals but trust me.
The songs on Wicked Wonderland are much better than on End Game.
I will also say that the musicianship on Megadeth is far superior to this one.
After 2 listens all the way through I can say that I remember all the songs!
That indeed is a major accomplishment. Can't remember another CD producing those results!
I will also say that this is MUCH heavier than anything Lita Ford has EVER put out!
This is big plus to me as I usually tread on the harder side.
The song Betrayal sounds just like a duet with Zakk Wylde but it's with Jim Gillette (I think I use his razors).
I'm not familiar with him but he rocks on Betrayal that's for sure.
Lita plays a great old school rockin' guitar on all the tunes.
She impressed me on Betrayal (the end solo), Bed (again the end solo), and for some reason I just love the solo on inside.
Let's not forget the intense guitar and vocal work on Sacred. A real inspiration right there.
Please don't mistake me for a nut swinger although she has no nuts to swing off!
I actually thought this was a self gift - meaning that my girl gave it to me in hopes that she'd end up with it....
No such luck honey, I love this one way too much!
Best Lita Ford album ever!
2009-12-29 - OMG! I can't describe how excited I am about Wicked Wonderland!
I've always been a huge Lita fan and had high expectations for this album.
It blew all of them away! I am completely in awe.
As a woman there were really no females in hard rock back in the 80's.
There certainly wasn't any women playing guitar like Lita and I still haven't seen any!
I've always idolized Lita for so many things. Her talent, her tenacity, her beauty, and her balls!
Back in the 80's it was almost blasphemy for a girl to rock and Lita went up against them all with
a f*** you attitude and a gorgeous smile to boot!
Today she continues in her wild ways with her hardest rocking album yet, Wicked Wonderland.
Lita sounds like she hasn't aged a day. Her voice is still as sexy as always and her guitar playing is
better than ever.
The deserted island must have done her good! Her songs are off the hook! I can't pick a favorite but here's
my list of songs that are a little better than the others.
CRAVE
BETRAYAL
INSIDE
SCREAM 4 ME
PUSH
BED
EVERYTHING
TRUTH
SACRED
There are 15 smokin' songs on Wicked Wonderland.
I'd like to thank Lita for giving us girls some sweet ear candy in the form of her man.
The guys have always got to get off hearing Lita's sexy voice and now us girls can fantasize a bit ourselves!
Jim can sing so sexy and then so scary! I love it and so do all my girlfriends.
The only complaint i have is that I had to wait so long!
Lita please make another album soon.
15 years is just too d*** long!
Fantastic!
2009-12-29 - Admittedly, my wife has always been a bigger Lita Ford fan than myself. I liked the duet she did with Ozzy and a couple other songs I hear my wife play but that was about it.
Until Now!
Wow, this album rocks hard! It still sounds like Lita but like she's on steroids! I love it and so does the wife.
There are 15 songs and they all kick major behind.
Our son was listening to it with us and he says that the song Betrayal is in one of his video games.
This is the first CD of ours that he likes too!
I'm very happy with this and am now proudly a big Lita Ford fan!
Unhappy with a poor album after such a long wait
2009-12-29 - I have everything Lita Ford has ever done...every album, every video, guitar tab books, picks, etc....this album made me sad. After such a long wait for a new album I was hoping for somthing so much more "real" Lita Ford, like stuff from Out For Blood or Dancing on the Edge or Stilleto.
Lita, if you read this, I beg you 2 things:
1) keep your husband off any future albums. I'm sure he's a great guy but this was supposed to be a Lita Ford Album, not a Jim Gillete album.
2) get a real website and keep track of your fans. I have been dying to see you play live since the early 80s, you were 15 miles from my house in October 2009 and I had no idea until afterwards even tho I signed up on every website you ever had and even Ticketmaster. I didn't even know the ablum was coming out until a friend told me.
