Description of Flypaper:
Flypaper is a curious name for this shaggy-dog film about characters who continually cross paths as their lives careen out of control. Craig Sheffer is the ostensible lead, though his hotheaded, gun-toting criminal is hardly the picture's hero. He kick-starts the story by kidnapping meth lab chemist Lucy Liu, and then hunts down his junkie girlfriend, Sadie Frost, who is now under the care of her crotchety real estate mogul guardian (Robert Loggia). In the very next room is John C. McGinley, cheating on his jealous future bride, Illeana Douglas, with Talisa Soto, a dominatrix in tight leather. The film plays out these threads as if they are destined to intertwine in some improbable climax, but instead they merely crisscross in passing, finally fraying in a soft, anticlimactic conclusion. The performers try to have some fun with their familiar parts, and writer-director Klaus Hoch tosses in a few curve balls (my favorite is the knife sticking out of Sheffer's skull like a topknot, turning the homicidal heist man into a punch-drunk pussycat), but for all his offbeat humor and funky twists, nothing in Flypaper ever sticks. --Sean Axmaker
Flypaper Reviews:
A Wonderful Comedy; way above mainstream comedies
2008-05-11 - Contrary to what folks have been saying about this movie (i.e. it imitates "Pulp Fiction"), it is very funny, very original in spots, and talented (as opposed to "Pulp Fiction"). It is also a spoof on many movies. The actors are very obviously enjoying themselves, and some of the performances are actually masterful, most notably Graig Sheffer's. The script is very witty, and the story is riveting if only you watch this movie the way movies are supposed to be watched, i.e. attentively and from the beginning. Sheffer's "Where's your boyfriend? Hey, boyfriend!" will have you in stitches - if you've been REALLY watching the film up to that point. And John C. McGinley's monologue on why his relationship with his bride is anything but normal is bittersweet in addition to being hilarious.
I must say, though, that this movie is not for everyone. Those who can appreciate today's standup comedy will not find it comical.
I don't know why, but I liked it!
2008-03-19 - I enjoyed this quirky movie. It wasn't a great story, but the characters were colorful and it was very entertaining. If you wait a little while something funny is going to happen. Like everyone else says...It's worth a watch.
Great movie
2007-01-20 - Unscrupulous Californians will do anything to get their hands on a million bucks in this twisted tale, which intertwines three story lines. Bobby Ray (Craig Sheffer) abducts a meth-lab chemist (Lucy Liu) and sets off to find his druggie girlfriend (Sadie Frost), who's in the custody of her real-estate magnate dad (Robert Loggia) -- a man in danger of being kidnapped. Meanwhile, jealous Laura (Illeana Douglas) must deal with a philandering fiancé.
Fun!
2006-08-23 - Like most people, I've bought this movie because of one or two appealing things it contains. Watching it, though, was a nice surprise. There was lots of scenes where I coundn't stop laughing! Of course, those appealing things were there too but, in the end, the whole was worth much more than that.
INTERESTING !!!!
2006-04-30 - Yes,it borrows the crossed stories structure from Pulp Fiction,so what ? The technique made history and many films have used it without harm whatsoever to their plots/stories.Plus,you get to see Lucy Liu at her sweetest and youngest, with some nudity and sexual scenes. If you?re a fan of this hot asian chick, you?ll go nuts about this movie (I did).
