Editorial Review:
It's never too late to start living! Kathy Bates Rupert Everett and Dan Aykroyd star in this hilarious comedy about a woman who learns to live life to the fullest after her husband leaves her and her favorite crooner is murdered.Running Time: 122 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY UPC: 794043631627
Description of Unconditional Love:
Despite the success of My Best Friend's Wedding, Aussie director P.J. Hogan certainly hasn't gone Hollywood. Unconditional Love, co-written with his wife and fellow filmmaker Jocelyn Moorhouse, is a deeply eccentric concoction that ranges from campy comedy to murder mystery. If the whole thing doesn't really come off, it does have much that is funny, giddy, or simply weirder than all-get-out. Kathy Bates enjoys herself as a discarded wife who impulsively flies to England to attend the funeral of her idol, a beloved singer--Jonathan Pryce, in glorious sequined form. Meeting his "valet" (read: secret gay lover), Rupert Everett, she determines to find the dead man's murderer. It's hard to get the tone right on this kind of movie, but it's also easy to like a film that finds time for tributes to Barry Manilow (hey, Hogan rehabilitated ABBA in Muriel's Wedding) and the reassuring spirit of Julie Andrews. --Robert Horton
Unconditional Love Reviews:
What a neat find!
2008-06-18 - Found this through Netflix and loved it, so I just had to own it. The cast is sterling! It's a unique blend of musical, mystery, comedy, and several other genres, and it's just twisted enough that it works! Don't expect a traditional narrative, but open you mind and enjoy this unique and wonderful film!
One of My All Time Favorites!!!!
2008-05-30 - Unconditional Love
This film is hilarious, endearing and has so many surprises. The plot is completely implausible and sometimes even a bit silly but you will fall in love with these characters played by Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett and Meredith Eaton who is a dwarf and a comic genius. Together this trio embarks on the most impossible task of capturing a serial killer. Everyone who has seen it has loved it and many I know have rushed out to buy their own copy. There is something so unique about this movie and please do not let the title turn you away. At first, it doesn't seem to fit but when it is over and you are still singing (and trying to get that song out of your head) the title will gel. Highly recommended for a great time and a better understanding of those who are a bit different. This is a film you will want to see more than once...maybe more than a dozen times:)
wonderful surprise!
2008-05-24 - This is the best movie I have seen in years. This movie is goofy, sad, weird, funny, and best of all heartfelt. Jonathan Pryce sang like an angel and camped up his role as the idol. Kathy Bates was amazing. And the midget daughter in law was hysterical, I hope she is in a lot more movies. Great movie, words cannot describe. I do not understand why this was never released in the theatres. Bravo!!!
Unconditional Love
2008-01-27 - Unconditional Love-very funny. Some adult parts and some "scary" parts, so not suitable for under 13. I had seen it twice before purchasing it, and wanted to have it to share with friends. If you enjoy singing, and/or having someone sing to you, this will be a favorite.
Unconditional Excellence WOW ! ! !
2007-12-17 - A MUST SEE AND A MUST BUY ! ! !
WONDERFUL VIEW OF EVERETT'S PECS! ! !
ALL ACTORS (EXCEPT JULIE ANDREWS) WERW WONDERFUL. Julie could have been left out of this one.
BUT...EVERYONE MUST SEE IT ! ! !
