Editorial Review:
As touchstones to the past, dolls validate childhood, a span of years that often seem like fragmented moments in time. With their life-like faces, blemished complexions, and snarled hair, vintage dolls hold sway with a magical power that rarely wanes, and often grows. In this collection, 60 contributors reminisce about their childhood dolls. Not all the dolls were pretty; not all were wanted; some were disappointing; not all became favorites, but each doll was memorable.
Dolls Remembered Reviews:
Childhood dolls
2009-11-24 - It is the perfect gift from a mother to her daughter and grand-daughter. The uniqueness of a doll to a girl is timeless; as being told in this collection of childhood memories.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
2009-10-16 - DOLLS REMEMBERED is a delightful little book that will be a Christmas gift to many friends this season. The stories are sometimes poignant, sometimes humorous, but all are memorable. One of my fondest memories is of my Betsy Wetsy doll mentioned in a number of stories. Betsy Wetsy is the first doll I recall owning, and I played with her during hot Florida summers until her fingers fused together, but she continued wetting! I've come across mention of other dolls that friends had cherished, and I immediately let them know where they can read about them. The pieces are short so that they provide a kind of daily memory blog, almost a devotional to dolls.
My hat is off to Madonna Dries Christensen and iUniverse for a fine job of editing/proofreading. DOLLS REMEMBERED is no shabby production. It's a book you'll be proud to have in your bookcase, and don't forget that royalties go to support a Down Syndrome facility in Northern Virginia.
Remember that important doll?
2009-08-27 - We remember our dolls for all kinds of reasons. They were important to us. This is a treasure of reflections on dolls, and what they mean at different times in life. What's their enchantment now? Why were they ever important? This collection of stories reveals the way dolls hold our attention, sometimes long after we have set them aside. The author also tells us the roles dolls have played--even in ancient times.
