Since 1981, Medjugorje has been the location of one of the strangest phenomena in the religious world. Six children claim to have seen a vision of the Virgin Mary almost daily, first on a stony hillside and then in or around the village church. The children claim to have been entrusted with ten secrets, one of which will be a permanent sign on the hillside. The visions have been surrounded by many supernatural occurances and healings, to which a large number of people - believers and non-believers - have been witness. The Virgin's message is said to be one of peace and unity, but has also contained many specific instructions.
