American Life Reviews:
A so-so single
2007-11-14 - "American Life" was the lead-off single for Madonna's 2003 album of the same name. On this single is the version of "American Life" that was played on the radio. In the song, Madonna talks about trying to deal with fame and trying to be the best. A rap in the song first talks about how people perceive her (she has all these wonderful things that many only dream of having, and assumptions that Madonna's satisfied). Near the end of the rap, however, Madonna talks about having lawyers, chefs, nannies, etc., and poses the question, "Do you think I'm satisfied?" In the last line of the rap, Madonna seems to express a sense of disillusionment ("I'm just living out the American dream, and I just realized that nothing is what it seems"). Overall, this is a pretty decent song.
The single is backed with "Die Another Day [Calderone & Quayle Afterlife Mix]." This remix features a throbbing bassline and drum loop which never seems to progress throughout most of the mix. The intro runs for three minutes before the lyrics kick in, and the mix in general is just too long (it's almost nine minutes in length). However, simply making an edit of this mix would not be enough to save it. It's easy to see why this was left off the "Die Another Day" maxi-single.
The sticker that appeared on the shrinkwrap of this single claims that the disc is "enhanced with Madonna extras." However, all that's on the enhanced portion is a weblink to a website that features streaming video of behind-the-scenes footage and Madonna buddy icons.
The average listener probably wouldn't enjoy this single; however, a Madonna collector would need this disc for the radio edit of "American Life" and the remix of "Die Another Day."
Madonna RAWKS!
2006-07-03 - I'll be the first to admit, I'm a bit biased when it comes to Madonna and her music. I'm a HUGE fan. However; since she is such prolific artist, it is sometimes very difficult to collect ALL of her albums and singles. This particular CD single is one example of the "What do I buy?" question. The big problem: It's short. Clocking in at a total of just over 13 minutes this CD features ONLY two songs, one of which you could of heard on the radio, the radio edit of an "Amercian Life". The redeeming quality is the second song, a VERY good dance mix of the James Bond movie theme "Die Another Day" by Calderone & Quayle. Value oriented people may like the price. The CD only costs 4 bucks. But for the NON-hardcore listener, pass on this CD single and get the MAXI-single, which as four more songs and is only 3 bucks more.
GREAT
2006-04-21 - umm this madonna single is GOOD and you can find it at ALOT of common cd/single retalers
the tracks are:
american life-radio edit-20 secs. shorter than regular mix but still GREAT
Die Another Day (Calderone & Quayle Afterlife Mix]-i've heard better mixes of this but you can find more on the outher american life singles!
the edhanced portion is the video and a web link in a cool presentation!
go get the american life maxi's too
I GIVE THIS 5 STARS
Get Remixes CD & This One
2005-09-01 - I'm not gonna talk about this song,if you're a huge fan of madonna's just like me,then just buy this single.
As far as I know,AMERICAN LIFE(single) is released 4 versions(more?),the other 3 are:
REMIXES CD:included 5 remixes+1 remix of DIE ANOTHER DAY,but no Radio Edit
PART 1:Radio Edit+2 remixes(Missy Elliott+Peter Rauhofer's American Anthem Part1)
PART 2(Blue):Radio Edit+2 remixes(Oakenfold Downtempo remix+Felix Da Housecat's Devin Dazzle Club mix)
And you can find the 4 reimxes in PART 1 & PART 2 also available on the REMIXES CD.
So the best way to own complete AMERICAN LIFE collection is get the REMIXES CD 'n this one, then you would get all the remixes and also the radio edit(though it's just little different from the album version),and plus a exclusive Remix of DIE ANOTHER DAY which you can't find on any other CDs.
Don't waste money on the other two 3-trk-singles,thought there are just 2 tracks on this single, it's worth.
Great CD Single for Madonna fans!
2005-02-13 - This is the CD Single of Madonna's "American Life". It features the [Radio Edit] of the song where the explicit lyrics are deleted. The track clocks in at 4:28, compared to the 4:57 album version. As a bonus, "Die Another Day" [Calderone & Quayle Afterlife Mix] is included on this CD Single. The 8:52 minute mix is not available on the "Die Another Day" CD Single, and as far as I know, is not to be found on any other CD than this one. If anything, this track is worth the small price. In addition to this CD Single, Madonna fans should also buy the "American Life" Rmxs MAXI Single. It features 5 versions of "American Life", none of which are the [Radio Edit], as well as another bonus track "Die Another Day" [Richard Humpty Vission Electrofield Mix]! Keep building up your Madonna collections!
