2007-05-01 - It is with great shock and dissapointment that I read some of the scathing reviews here relating to this song. Most of the "bad" reviews obviously comes from "older" people who find it difficult to adapt to the natural progression of music. This is Madonna's interpretation of the song, it is NOT Don McLean's version and never will be. Deal with it. If Don McLean can praise Madonna for her version of this song (which he has), why can't some of the other "sour" reviewers do the same? No one is asking them to buy this single, no one is asking them to even listen to it and no one is forcing them to like it.
Their subjective, narrow-minded and self involved (a very American trait) views should be kept to themselves and not try to force their point of view onto other people.
The world of music should be a democratic, let each and every one of us decide what music we like or don't.
Getting back to this release; it is the German 4 track version with the album version and some remixes. Never having been a fan of Victor Calderone, this trend continues here. The other remixes are not too bad, I kind of like Richard "Humpty's" versions, they're fun and energetic.

2000-12-13 - for a so-so singer Madonna did real well on the vocal. The radio mix is a good job. But the other 2 tracks are both dub mixes so unless you are a DJ and/or a die-hard fan you won't find much use of them.
Why?
2000-06-27 - What was Madonna thinking when she attempted to remake american Pie? She did it no justice at all, and she lost all of the meaning. She left out so much that it's not completed. She totally killed it, and I don't understand how people can accually like it.
Cool Song
2000-06-03 - I have to admit this is a good song. The original and the one by Wierd Al were better, though.
