Editorial Review:
Double disc edition. 2009 collection from the undisputed Queen of Pop. Celebration is a career-spanning 'best of' that will invite the world to celebrate a mind blowing career. The tracklisting was put together by Madonna herself and includes two brand new tracks: the club smash 'Celebration' and 'Revolver'. Madonna, is the most successful female solo artist ever. Everyone has their Madonna memories. This is a must have album for every household, one that's guaranteed to have Grandmothers, mothers and daughters all dancing and singing along together. This is a legendary career that deserves to be celebrated and there's no reason why we shouldn't do that while the Queen is still alive! 36 tracks including 'Like A Virgin', 'Into The Groove', 'Dress You Up', 'Like A Prayer', 'Material Girl' and more.
Celebration Reviews:
Awesome!
2009-12-15 - I love so much listening to Madonna's hits collection Celebration because it's really like holding back the years...
Far from perfect, but swell for a 2CD set...agree with Immel...
2009-12-14 - I HIGHLY agree this should have either been a multi-disc boxset, OR there should have been a multi-media set for the hardcore fan, in addition to this 2CD set...
In itself, this 2CD set is great!!! Even tho over 50 key tracks are missing, what's included is actually topnotch, and the discs are crammed to the brim...no more songs can fit...the remastering is great (VERY happy about the original "Into The Groove" included), and the 2 discs have a nice flow...only a coupla mixes were jarring at first, like "Lucky Star", but they settle and sound fine where they are...the 2 new songs are great too...even with the great, I was still let down as I was expecting a multimedia boxset...and there was supposed to be one around the time of "American Life", but it got delayed and then cancelled, but I'm still holding out for hope of one happening.
I agree with M. Immel, Madge deserves a set like that, with a complete set of all her singles (original 7"s, all international releases, all 12"s), unreleased tracks, rare B-sides like "Ain't No Big Deal", odds & ends like all her songs from soundtracks like "I'll Remember", the 4 songs from "Who's That Girl", the 2 from "Next Best Thing", etc, the rare track from the "Just Say Roe" compilation, the online exclusive "I'm So Cool", etc.
There should be the complete video collection on DVD and Blu-Ray...all the songs on the Blu-Ray disc as well, like on the multi-disc Tom Petty live box from BestBuy...consisting of ALL videos, not just the 47 clips on the 2DVD regular set, but the missing ones too, like "American Life", "Oh Father", "Fever", etc, her movies perhaps, docs on all tours, a doc on the "Sex" book...include a velvet hardcover book of essays, all lyrics and rare photos (complete with ribbon bookmark)...package it in a blue velvet box, and have it be numbered, a certificate of authenticity and signed note by Madonna herself??
People would buy this thing...oh yes they would...like in "Field Of Dreams", if they build/make it, they will come...that MJ box was decent but far from perfect...Madge's should be better...and even tho she's no longer with Warners, they can STILL make the box, and have it out in time for when her Live Nation debut drops...Warners probably owns the rights to her catalogue...unless she does, and they should work together on it, in cohoots with her fans and manager, Guy Oseary...it's not too late...they rushed out "Celebration" for the holiday season, now they can take the time and assemble a proper classy set...
It should be 6-8 CDs, 3-4 DVDs, a Blu-Ray, a version with vinyl perhaps, the hardcover book, art prints...
Something like this would retail around $200, and should be sold either online only, or at BestBuy stores only, and they should be numbered, like 10,000 copies...
They would sell, no doubt...it's not too late...it might get done, mark my words, I'D buy it!!
AWESOME
2009-12-11 - WELL WHEN I BOUGHT THE CD I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE GREAT BUT WHEN I STARTED PLAYING IT,IT WAS SO AWESOME.THE WAY THE SONGS ARE ARRANGED ARE SO PERFECT GETS U ON YOUR FEET DANCING NON STOP.I KNOW DEFINATELY XMAS GOING TO BE THE BEST ONE WE'VE HAD COST THIS CD GOING TO ROCK IT.THANKS
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
2009-12-10 - Let me start by saying that I've been a fan of Madonna's music since the beginning, so a 2 disc compilation is going to be received with open arms but also with a critical eye. For a Madonna hits compilation to be complete, Warner Brothers should have release a 4 disc box set. There are so many songs missing. What keeps this collection from being 5 stars are the errors contained, errors that cannot be overlook. "Music" sounds atrocious and "Erotica" suffers from a poor edit. Below is my song by song opinion. I know others did it but here's mine:
Disc 1
1. Hung Up- Should have the single version to make room for better versions
of others songs on disc 1
2. Music- Music is a perfect song but not this one. Pops and clicks through out.
3. Vogue- Should have been the single edit, not the longer IC version.
4. 4 Minutes- Not my favorite song. This shorter version is fine by me.
Others will disagree.
5. Holiday- I love this song but a 6 minute version is not necessary. A
shortened version would have sufficed.
6. Everybody- Perfect
7. Like a Virgin- The longer album version would have been better.
8. Into the Groove- The original version makes it's glorious return.
Perfect.
9. Like a Prayer- Original album version. Perfect.
10. Ray of Light- This is the single edit. Not acceptable. Original album
version should be here.
11. Sorry- Perfect
12. Express Yourself- They almost got it right. Almost the video version. Mine seem the have a scratch at the very end. Not sure if it's my disc only or a manufacturing issue.
13. Open Your Heart- this seems to be the single version. It's fine.
14. Borderline- Should have been the longer album version.
15. Secret- The fade out single version. Should have been the album
version.
16. Erotica- Butchered single edit. Unacceptable
17. Justify My Love- This is fine.
18. Revolver- Horrible song. Week vocals. Terrible lyrics and rap.
DISC 2
1. Dress you Up- Slight modified. Perfect.
2. Material Girl- Shortened version. I know this is a lot to ask but the
video version with dialogue should have opened the disc. "She could be a
star, a major star." This version is fine.
3. La Isla Bonita- Original album version. Perfect.
4. Papa Don't Preach- This version is fine. Again (asking for a lot) the
video outro with the extended strings would have been perfect.
5. Lucky Star- Nice surprise. It seems like they turned up the guitar
volume.
6. Burning Up- Perfect.
7. Crazy for You- Perfect
8. Who's that Girl- Finally a remastered version. Not her greatest song but
sounds amazing here.
9. Frozen- Perfect
10. Miles Away- I question it being here instead of another song but it
sounds good and the ending is slightly different than the album version.
11. Take a Bow- Making it's 3rd appearance on a compilation but needs to be
here. Perfect.
12. Live to Tell- Same as above. Perfect.
13. Beautiful Stranger- I have to be in the mood for this song but sounds
great. Full version.
14. Hollywood- The only AMERICAN LIFE song that appears. Sounds good.
15. Die Another Day- Perfect.
16. Don't Tell Me- Sounds perfect until it get cut off at the end instead
of the fade. Who butchered this one?
17. Cherish- The IC version is fine but I question why it's the last old
song on the disc.
18. Celebration- This song doesn't break new ground but it's still a good
dance sound. Nice way to close the album.
SONGS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED AS WELL
1. Physical Attraction
2. Angel
3. Love Don't Live Here Anymore
4. Gambler
5. True Blue
6. Where's the Party
7. Spotlight (a single edit version)
8. Causing a Commotion
9. Oh Father
10. Keep it Together
11. Hanky Panky
12. Sooner or Later (only because it won a Oscar)
13. Rescue Me
14. Deeper and Deeper
15. Fever (should be since it was a European Hit)
16. Bad Girl
17. Rain
18. This Used to be My Playground
19. I'll Remember
20. Human Nature (album version)
21. Bedtime Story
22. You'll See
23. You Must Love Me
24. Don't Cry For Me Argentina(Miami Mix Edit since it was a dance hit)
25. Power of Good-Bye
26. Nothing Really Matters
27. Drowned World/Substitute for Love
28. American Pie
29. What it Feels Like For a Girl
30. American Life
31. Nothing Fails
32. Love Profusion
33. Get Together
34. Jump
35. Give it 2 Me
With these added songs, you can see how it could have easily been a 4 disc collection.
Madonna fans are very picky and none of us would have been 100% happy. CELEBRATION does have some flaws. Based on that, I can understand why some would skip this. But we also have must have gems that make this essential for one's collection.
Oh, its a bunch of Madonna songs... Thanks?
2009-12-01 - As a life long fan, I already have these songs and since this album is called Celebration and has been advertised and teased for so long, I was really expecting something special here. It was literally 2 CDs of Madonna songs. No special packaging, booklets, photos, remixes, DVD... NOTHING. I was so looking forward to purchasing and thought it was fateful that it was released on my birthday but.... Snore.
