Editorial Review:
The Confessions Tour, filmed at London's Wembley Arena during her worldwide sold-out 25-city Confessions Tour (2006's top-grossing tour world-wide), features songs from throughout the dance diva's career but largely focuses on Confessions On A Dance Floor. Bonus Footage on DVD: Je suis L'art, They're naughty children, Rollerskating, Photo Gallery
Description of Confessions Tour (CD + DVD):
The world can't get enough of Madonna, and with CD/DVD sets like The Confessions Tour dropping regularly, it's little wonder why. As a thrower of fantasy dance parties, she is peerless. As a physical role model for the 40-ish women who grew up on her music, she rules. And as an arbiter of what's going to sound shockingly original in any given decade--well, duh. The Confessions Tour rounds up songs from way back--"Ray of Light" and "La Isla Bonita" make the DVD, and "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" are on the CD as well as the DVD--but this concert, filmed in 2006 at London's Wembley Arena, aims its sturdiest spotlight on Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madge's 2005 disco disc. You could argue, then, that unless you're in it for the sheer DVD spectacle (and what a spectacle it is), there's no sense in owning this package. Only you wouldn't be right. Because as any on-the-ball Madonna fan knows, what she's doing musically is telling a story--you may already know the characters, but that doesn't mean she hasn't completely reworked the plot. To that end, "I Love New York" gets its rock on, "Let It Will Be" has a musical temper tantrum, and "Hung Up" goes for the drama queen award. You've heard these songs before, but you've never heard them quite like this, to borrow a bad informercial phrase. As twisted and hopped-up as they've become, they're all worth getting to know again. --Tammy La Gorce
Confessions Tour (CD + DVD) Reviews:
Don't pass up this golden opportunity to boogie woogie!
2009-09-09 - There are increasingly fewer ways to lift myself out of a deep depression but The Queen's Confessions Tour managed to do just that for two of the best hours I've had in ages. This superbly shot concert features video effects and editing that enhance rather than take away from the original London show.
Spectacular holographic and projected visuals illuminate the enormously majestic playground traversed by truly talented, high-voltage dancers. Madonna herself looks stunning and clearly has a blast the whole way through. Her sense of humor while sprawled across the stage after an especially exhausting performance ("I think I'm gonna lay here for awhile") marks one of my favorite moments. 'Music Inferno' rates as the best overall number, which mashes up 'Music' with a hard-hitting 'Disco Inferno' beat. Madge and her onstage entourage even don Saturday Night Fever suits!
I got up, danced and sang along to my two favorite songs off the Confessions album ('Sorry' and 'Like It Or Not') - which were fortunately performed back-to-back - while blaring the almighty DTS track so as to give my eardrums a workout. Confessions remains a joyous experience that made me feel "shiny and new" long after the credits rolled. I can't wait to revisit it.
Thank you Your Madgesty!
Madonna CD
2009-09-08 - The DVD is great. If you love Madonna, or just her Confessions... album, this DVD is a must have!
A very cold performance
2009-09-07 - After watched four times,I realized the madonna's confession tour is very cold.Yeap!! she has the most amazing stage ever built!!! but the performance looks cold and boring.....I will stick to the cds...
I Confess - This CD/DVD combination is a MUST HAVE!!
2009-08-05 - Unfortunately, I did not have the option to confess when her Confessions Tour made a stop in Chicago, but Madge didn't let me down when she released the Confessions Tour on both CD & DVD. The only let down I have is that the CD does not contain all of the songs that were performed on the DVD. Other than that, the tour itself is very refreshing! Here's the setlist for the Tour:
ACT 1: The Horse Ride (I dubbed the acts)
1. Future Lovers/I Feel Love - Madge mashes up Future Lovers with Donna Summer's I Feel Love. Very smart move indeed!!
2. Get Together - one of my favorite songs from the Confessions on A Dancefloor CD!
3. Like A Virgin - The LCD displays Madonna's broken bones from a horse riding accident on her birthday. Madonna sings while riding a mechanical S&M carousel.
4. Jump - the set is like a jungle gym! Madonna's dancers are reinacting the video (literally jumping everywhere hence the song title).
ACT 2: Confessions
5. Confessions - a video interlude with a couple of dancers confessing about how they overcame their struggles
6. Live To Tell - many people saw this performance as controversial (personally, I didn't see why). Madonna sings on a glass cross wearing a crown of thorns like Jesus. Above her a screen displays the number of deaths occured from AIDS in Africa.
7. Forbidden Love
8. Isaac
9. Sorry - Madge and her dancers reinact the fight/danceoff scene in the video. After the performance Madge gives the finger!
10. Like It Or Not
11. Sorry (Remix) - this act closes with a video interlude of a remixed version of Sorry. The video displays famine, acts of cruelty, and Madge giving the finger while two of her dancers are krumping!
ACT 3: Glam Rock
12. I Love New York - A cool retro performance while Madonna rocks on the guitar & sings "Just go to Texas & you can suck George Bush's ****!"
13. Ray Of Light - pretty neat performance with Madonna's dancers
14. Let It Will Be (Paper Dolls Mix) - By far one of my favorite performances. Two words: High Energy!!
15. Drowned World/Substitute for Love - before she sings, Madge gives the audience her "diva speech." What's surprising is that she actually didn't know that they were filming the London show. Nice performance with her singer Isaac.
16. Paradise (Not For Me) - an acoustic performance with Madonna playing the acoustic guitar with Isaac. A video displays rain and cherry blossoms during the song.
ACT 4: Disco
17. The Duke Mixes the Hits - a brief video interlude of excerpts including the songs Borderline, Erotica, Dress You Up, Holiday, & Disco Inferno
18. Music Inferno - a mash-up of Disco Inferno & Music! Madonna's dancers are on rollerskates skating down the runway doing special tricks! Madonna and two of her dancers are dressed a la John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever!
19. Erotica (a.k.a. You Thrill Me) - Basically, it's an extremely toned down version of Erotica. Madge actually sings lines from her unreleased Erotica demo titled You Thrill Me. The song is nicely remixed while Madonna and her dancers perform amazing choreography.
20. La Isla Bonita - a high energy remixed version that still maintains the orginial elements of the song.
21. Lucky Star - a mash-up of Lucky Star to the music of Hung Up! Madonna and her backup singers strut their stuff on stage!
ACT 5: Encore
22. Hung Up - the finale of the show! Madonna ineracts with the audience and tells them to sing "Time goes by so slowly." As the video curtain comes down, Madonna sings "I'm tired of waiting on you!" as the show ends with the LCD displaying "Have You Confessed?"
Now that I ranted on about the DVD setlist, here's the CD's:
1. Future Lovers/I Feel Love
2. Like A Virgin
3. Jump
4. Confessions (interlude)
5. Isaac
6. Sorry
7. Sorry (Remix)
8. I Love New York
9. Let It Will Be
10. Music Inferno
11. Erotica
12. Lucky Star
13. Hung Up
Overall opinion: One of Madge's best concerts to date! I wish the CD had the entire setlist on the DVD, but it's still a nice CD to workout to! I highly recommend buying this combo if you're a fan of Madge or a fan of concerts in general! It's time to confess!!
Amazing!
2009-07-25 - It's mind boggling how Modonna stays on top of the game. This tour is just simply insanely ridiculous and I mean that in the most complementary manner. Just wow!
