Justify My Love Reviews:
Hate the song, love the remix
2007-10-10 - This CD is where "The Beast Within" premiered before it was showcased in the highly erotic number on "The Girlie Show" tour and it was later remixed into the erie intro to 2004's Re-Invention Tour. This mix makes the CD worth buying.
A killer single - but I don't like the remixes
2005-12-19 - Without a doubt "Justify My Love" is one of Madonna's definitive singles. The history behind this song is unforgettable. The song went #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and Dance/Club chart in January 1991. First, this was Madonna's one and only collaboration with Lenny Kravitz. Then there's the controversial video which was banned from MTV, then became the first "video single" ever released and still stands, even in 2005, as the biggest-selling video single in history. Then Madonna's appearance on ABC's "Nightline" to explain the video resulting in one of the show's highest ratings ever.
As much as I love the original version of "Justify My Love" found on the Immaculate Collection, I've never been able to get into the remixes on this single. The Orbit 12" Mix and Hip-Hop mixes are just way overrated in my opinion, you listen to them and just think they suck compared to the original. "Shep's 'Spressin' Himself Re-remix" of Express Yourself is nothing to ride home about either - the "Non-Stop Express Mix" is much better.
The only other interesting track on this single is Track #5 - the "Beast Within Mix" of Justify My Love. Some of this track was used for the opening video montage during Madonna's 2004 Re-Invention Tour.
I do want to point out one more thing. The cover image on the "Justify My Love" single is truly, truly classic. It is almost worth getting the single just for this.
However, if you're only a casual fan, you're probably better off just getting your copy of "Justify My Love" off the Immaculate Collection.
So now what?
2005-08-23 - I have the five track US maxi-single version of this CD. It's one of the best maxi-singles Madonna ever released. The first version of "Justify My Love" is just the regular version from the Immaculate Collection, but it is followed by two great extended remixes. Then you get an incredible nine and a half minute remix of "Express Yourself". The last track is an intriguing remix of "Justify My Love" with completely different lyrics. I believe the lyrics Maddona is reciting in this version are taken from the Bible, but I can't confirm that. Here is the track listing:
1. Justify My Love (Q-sound Mix)
2. Justify My Love (Orbit 12" Mix)
3. Justify My love (Hip Hop Mix)
4. Express Yourself (Shep's 'Spressin' Himself Re-remix)
5. Justify My Love (The Beast Within Mix)
Worst Madonna song!
2004-10-07 - I still don't like Justify My Love by Madonna. It's too steamy and repetitive. Even the Public Enemy sample that Lenny Kravitz used for the song doesn't work. Madonna's whispering comes off like sweet nothings on this song. I didn't like that controversial video either. (...) I love a lot of Madonna's singles albums and hits, but this song is just lousy to me, just a bunch of crappy, cheap, monotonous, faceless, bland junk!!!!!
What are You Gonnna Do?
2004-09-02 - I aboslutley adore the song "Justify My Love" it is sensual, lustful and artistic. Madonna is one of the few artist that can see sex as an art and this song prooves it. The cd I am reviewing is the Five-Track U.S. Maxi single, which is better than this 3-Track import. This import contains The Album Version and William Orbit Mix Of Justify my love and Shep's 'Spressin' Himself Remix.
1. Justify My Love (Q-Sound Mix): This version is the same one that appeared on the Immaculate Collection.
2. Justify My Love (Orbit 12"): An early callboration with William Orbit. This version has an early techno sound to it. It is hot and sexy!
3. Hip Hop Mix: This version is the best one. The beats here are hip hop and hot!
4. Express Yourself (Sheps 'Spressin' Himself Mix): The best remix of Express yourself. I love it! You can never go wrong with Mr. Pettibone.
5. Justfiy My Love (The Beast Within Mix): This version could stand alone as song. It is completley differnt. The beat is incrediable. The lyrics are taken entirley from the Bible's book of Revelation. This song was also performed at the Girley Show and The Re-Invention Tour.
This is one of Madonna's best Singles, because all the songs are so differnt, unlike one of it's preceding Singles, Vogue.
