Rescue Me Reviews:
Madonna can Rescue You
2004-11-22 - Rescue Me is undoubtly one of Madonna's best songs to date. It is so powerful and full of energy. This single is the best version that has been released. It only has three versions, but the versions are somewhat differnt, compared to the U.S. Maxi that has five versions sounding very much alike.
The Tracks:
1. 7" Mix: This is the same version called Single version on the U.S. Maxi. I like the Immaculate Collection version better. It is longer and has a better ending.
2. Titanic Vocal: This is the best vocal of Rescue Me. It is basically an extended version, with some extra vocals thrown in.
3. Demanding Dub: This is the only single you can find the Demanding Dub. It is not spectatcular, but decent. Most of the lyrics used are not even from Rescue Me. They are lyrics that were put in, on the remixes.
This cd is becoming very rare, so you find it, I would Grab it.
Madonna Sure Doesn't Need To Be Rescued!
2003-06-18 - The year of 1990 was a huge one for Madonna - perhaps her biggest to date at that point in her career. In April 1991, she released Rescue Me, the second of two new songs from her massive UK No.1, multi-million selling greatest hits collection, The Immaculate Collection. The song peaked at a fairly successful No.3 in the UK and spent a total 8 weeks on the chart.
Rescue Me opens with a fantastic heart beat that gets faster by the second. A thunderstorm then strikes the song, and the electrifying beat opens up with a fantastic instrumental arrangement. Madonna then clicks her fingers a few times, while sighing, before singing "I'm talking, I'm talking, I believe in the power of love!" before belting out her first mini-chorus, "I'm singing, I'm singing I believe that you can rescue me!" She then sings her first verse in a somewhat deep and talk-like voice with the lyrics, "With you I'm not a little girl, with you I'm not a man. When all the hurt inside of me comes out, you understand. You see that I'm ferocious, you see that I am weak. You see that I am silly, and pretentious, and a freak. But I don't feel too strange for you, don't know exactly what you do. I think when love is pure you try to understand the reasons why. And I prefer this mystery, it cancels out my misery. And gives me hope that there could be a person that loves me." Madonna then sings the chorus which - in full length - goes, "Rescue me, it's hard to believe, your love has given me hope. Rescue me, it's hard to believe - I'm drowning, baby throw out your rope."
The second verse then begins with with the excellent lyrics, "With you I'm not a fascist, can't play you like a toy. And when I need to dominate, you're not my little boy. You see that I am hungry, for a life of understanding. And you forgive my little heart when she's demanding. You bring me to my knees, while I'm scratching out the eyes of a world I want to conquer, and deliver and despise. And right while I am kneeling there, I suddenly begin to care and understand that there could be a person that loves me." The second chorus is then repeated twice before a brilliant bridge with the lyrics, "Love is understanding - it's hard to believe life can be so demanding. I'm sending out an S.O.S. Stop me from drowning baby, I'll do the rest!" The song then gets all saucy and revealing as Madonna moans and groans before repeating the chorus. Up next is a fantastic speech from Madonna, "It's not my business to decide, how good you are for me. How valuable you are, and what the world can see. Only that you try to understand me. And have the courage to love me...for me." The song then dies down as the thunder storm comes to an end and the backing singers take over.
The video to Rescue Me is one which I have only seen on a few occasions, and I am a huge Madonna fan. I can't really describe it, but I think it's a performance of the song from one of Madonna's world tour - probably the Blonde Ambition one. Overall, this song is a fantastic one by Madonna in which she really gets to showcase her vocals - they sound so deep, thick and rich unlike they have ever done before. The song also has an extreme power factor that makes it all the more dramatic. Essential.
