You Must Love Me Reviews:
Madonna CD 5 Star Review
2008-10-28 - This was a gift for a friend. But it gets lots of compliments! Great gift for a Madonna fan!

SO MUCH BETTER than the album version 4 Star Review
2003-07-22 - This CD single may appear useless if you own Evita, but here it is presented in a much more orchestral version with a tear jerking intro that didn't make it onto the soundtrack. That alone makes this a must buy, along with the artwork. Rainbow High shouldn't have been the B-side, she should have just put the Instrumental one on there instead

She Needs To Be Loved By Her Country 5 Star Review
2003-07-18 - In 1996, Madonna starred in the smash hit movie Evita. It was the story of Argentina's Eva Peron, and Madonna had the main part, alongside Antonio Banderas. The movie spawned a hit soundtrack, which sold a staggering 17 million copies worldwide and became Madonna's first UK No.1 for six years. Three songs were released from this soundtrack - the first was You Must Love Me. The song peaked at No.10 in the UK in November 1996. It spent just four weeks on the chart, but re-entered the chart on two occasions in January 1997, spending one week on the chart on each of the two occasions.

You Must Love Me begins straight away with just Madonna's singing voice. There are no instruments, except for Madonna's voice where she sings, "Where do we go from here? This isn't where we intended to be. We had it all. You believed in me. I believed in you. Certainties disappear. What do we do for our dream to survive? How do we keep our passions alive as we used to?" It's a short verse in which Madonna's vocals are extraordinary. Vocal lessons for the role of Eva Peron in the movie had strengthened Madonna's voice, and it definitely shows here. Madonna then sings the best part of the song - the bridge, "Deep in my heart I'm concealing. Things that I'm longing to say. Scared to confess what I'm feeling. Frightened you'll slip away. Madonna then sings the simple chorus which consists of "You must love me. You must love me." She then goes onto the second verse, "Why are you at my side? How can I be any use to you now? Give me a chance and I'll let you see how nothing has changed." Again, a simple verse with wonderful violins and a great piano. Madonna then repeats the bridge and the chorus, before the song dies down and finishes. It's a short song, but very sweet and original.

The video to You Must Love Me is the performance of the song from the film. Madonna sits in a darkened room as Eva Peron singing her heart out whilst a number of women play violins and the piano. It's a classy video, and Madonna looks particularly wonderful. All in all, this is a great and diverse song from Madonna that - while it may not have done very well in the charts - contributed to the sales of the album significantly and improved Madonna's status amongst more serious critics.

Terrific 5 Star Review
2002-02-06 - This amazing song, one of Madonna's finest, was amazingly not included in GHV2. No matter. Buy this single if you don't already own "Evita." I love the fact that the song can be taken two completely different ways.

Excellence in Music Once Again 5 Star Review
1999-03-06 - Madonna has done it again. She demonstrates that, yes, she can sing Evita. She has done a wonderful job witht he pristine vocals of the newest, Evita song, "You Must Love Me" The import contains the intro which is lost on the Double Disc set of Evita.
