Description of Wild Hope:
Back in the 1990s, when Mandy Moore was still trying to outmaneuver fellow junior glamazons Britney, Jessica, and Christina up the pop charts, the best song she was able to pull from her bag of tricks was "Candy," a tune that was way more Twizzler than Starburst. Cut to 2007: Moore, a respected Hollywood actress (never mind the Diane Keaton dud Because I Said So), has made a record that reflects the artist that--against some heavy odds--she's become. Wild Hope, co-written with the cred-conferring team of Rachael Yamagata, Lori McKenna, and the Weepies, should earn her a spot on adult-alternative radio alongside format regulars Dar Williams, Sarah McLachlan, and Jonatha Brooke. Its songs, like the achy "Gardenia," sung over a gently plunked piano, aim at confession and clarity: "I'm the one who likes to make love on the floor," the chorus reminds a vacant-eyed lover. Earlier, on first single "Extraordinary," Moore pours her rich, country-rubbed, Anna Nalick-like vocals into self-scrutiny and renewal: "I was a starling, nobody's darling/Now I'm ready to be extraordinary," she sings. Talent will be Moore's ticket to the transformation she's going for--no wild hoping necessary. --Tammy La Gorce

Wild Hope Reviews:
Wild Hope... 4 Star Review
2009-06-04 - ...Moore's best up to 2007. Not quite an "original" 'Coverage'but dare I say her adult career really begins with this album.
1. Extraordinary-An upbeat pop song with a good message, sounds like female John Mayer back when he was good. A great way to start off the album and let her fans know that Candy, I wanna be with you, and 'Cry' it ain't. 7/10
2. All Good things-Better than 'extraordinary', has a good message and still manages to be upbeat even though its a goodbye song. 8/10
3. Slummin' in Paradise-One of the highlights on the album, slightly forgettable on the first listen and more memorable on the second.7/10
4.Most of Me-Song that really had the potential to be great but is slightly lacking just a bit more push overall. 7/10
5.Few Days Down-Filler song, good but slightly forgettable compared to the album's real highlights. 7/10
6.Can't You Just Adore Her?-Very good lyrics (I like my chocolate in the morning and my coffee late at night), I really like this song its a highlight among the two previous bland and slightly boring songs-Most of Me and Few Days Down. 8/10
7.Looking Forward to Looking Back-I can relate to the title of this song alone-very good title. The album was losing steam at this point until this song picks the pace back up, one of the highlights. 8/10
8.Wild Hope-Beautiful Song. 9/10
9.Nothing that You Are-The best song on the album. The strongest in chorus and tempo-just an overall good song and possibly the only song on this album that you can listen to over and over again. 10/10
10.Latest Mistake-The pace is slowed down once again with Latest Mistake, which is not a bad song but the fact that the overall tempo of the album goes up and down without any consistency is one of its flaws. Good song. 8/10
11.Ladies' Choice-An upbeat slow tempo song with very good lyrics. 8/10
12.Gardenia-When the reviews all first came out back in '07, this is one of the songs they considered one of the highlights. Moore sings like she means it and sings it well, and its a confessional song to listen to when you are in that mode but if you haven't broken up with your boyfriend lately I'd say Wild Hope is a better song to listen to and if you're in the mood for upbeat 'Nothing That You Are' is the song for you. Its a highlight if you're in the right mood otherwise its a been too intense to ignore for casual repeats overall. Still its a highlight. 8/10
Bonus Target Track-Could Have Been Watching You- A good pop song, glad I have it. Better than most of me and few days down. 8/10

Bland, Boring, and Beautiful can all be used to describe this album,so it gets a B-not at all a masterpiece, and not at all a failure, but definitely a step towards the right direction. Looking forward for Moore.

Wildly Hoping for the next album 5 Star Review
2009-01-19 - A little Simon and Garfunkle a Little Eagles, with a heavy dose of Carol King and Vonda Shephard. I love Mandy Moore's new album Wild Hope. It's good to hear hear her rich maple syrup vocals showcased in a true folk album. I was impressed with her range even on the pop-tarty "Candy" and in this album she has come into her own. Easily compared to other female folk vocalists. This album has jazzy touches, and as you listen you easily imagine yourself sitting in an intimate club. I find it hard to tell you of any throwaway song on this album, they are all of equal caliber. This is definately worth the wait. I hope she comes out with another album soon.

Pleasant Surprise... 4 Star Review
2008-08-23 - Well I was pretty hesitant to give this album a try since it was coming from one of the bubble gum pop princesses of the late 90's early 2000's. Now I can say this should be considered Mandy Moore's actual debut album. She shows that she is out to create good music that is influenced with folk, rock, country, soul and pop overtones. This album really gives her credibility as an artist and reaffirms that she was the one of the pop stars who actually grew up and learned to act in a mature way. The only reason I give this album four stars and not five is the backing music. While the lyrics are sang in tune, showcase her wonderful voice and act as a confessional for her life the backing music is lacking. Being a guitar player myself I can tell you that the group never really changes keys or plays anything too varying throughout the whole album. They seem to play it safe even though Mandy's voice has quite a bit of range. All in all I feel that this is great all around album and it showcases Many Moore as a great artist. Hopefully she and her band can vary it up a bit on their next album to extend her talents.

A much better debut... 4 Star Review
2008-08-07 - Given her history as an actress as well as a performer, Mandy Moore clearly has long term plans, and this is a very good indication of things to come. Wild Hope abandons whatever remaining status she had as a teen pop star (an evanescent path at best) in favor of finding her own voice and joining the ranks of serious songwriters. While the album lacks any real gems (although I find the title track very engaging), it is hopefully just the beginning of this talented young woman's musical career. Measured on its own terms, it is a consistent and dulcet album, effusing personal comfort that easily makes up for the shortage of hooks. I believe Mandy is on the right track and fully expect her next album will deliver what Wild Hope promises.

I hope to hear "Moore" of her! 5 Star Review
2008-06-10 - Mandy Moore's CD, "Wild Hope," introduces us to a new, talented, folksy singer-songwriter in the style of Anna Nalick, Jewel, and Sara Barielles.
Chances are, you have already heard of Mandy Moore. She appeared in a few movies and also released several teen pop albums back in the late 1990's/early 2000's. At the time, she was compared to Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Christina Augeleria. Well, forget that Mandy Moore. Now, she has re-emerged as a promising talent with a fresh new sound. My favorite songs on the disc are "Extraordinary," "Wild Hope," and "Can't You Just Adore Her." If you are a fan of Jewel and similar songwriters, I highly recommend this album!
