Description of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Deluxe Edition) [Blu-ray]:
The third film in the The Mummy series freshens the franchise up by setting the action in China. There, the discovery of an ancient emperor's elaborate tomb proves a feather in the cap of Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford), a young archaeologist and son of Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his wife Evelyn (Maria Bello, taking over the role from Rachel Weisz). Unfortunately, a curse that turned the emperor (Jet Li) and his army into terra cotta warriors buried for centuries is lifted, and the old guy prepares for world domination by seeking immortality at Shangri La. The O'Connells barely stay a step ahead of him (climbing through the Himalaya mountains with apparent ease), but the action inevitably leads to a showdown between two armies of mummies in a Chinese desert. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has a lot to offer: a supporting cast that includes the elegant Michelle Yeoh, Russell Wong, and Liam Cunningham, the unexpected appearance of several Yeti, and a climactic battle sequence that is nightmarishly weird but compelling. On the downside, the charm so desperately sought in romantic relationships, as well as comic turns by John Hannah (as Evelyn's rascal brother), is not only absent but often annoying. Rarely have witty asides in the thick of battle been more unwelcome in a movie. Rob Cohen's direction is largely crisp if sometimes curious (a fight between Fraser and Jet Li keeps varying in speed for some reason), but his vision of Shangri La, in the Hollywood tradition, is certainly attractive. --Tom Keoghbr>

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Deluxe Edition) [Blu-ray] Reviews:
Boring, idiotic. Ruins a terrific series. 1 Star Review
2009-11-30 - Really enjoyed the first two mummy movies in the series. Looked for this one and found it in the young adult section of my local library. Wondered why it was there until I watched it. The script doesn't bear much scrutiny. Very disappointing. I guess they probably won't do another sequel now because this one was so awful. A pity.

THE MUMMY SERIES: third dvd. 4 Star Review
2009-11-30 - The good thing about the series and especially this film in general, is; they took an old genre, horror, and expanded it into, action, adventure. This film was better than, Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and had better visual effects as well.

Disappointment to a great series... 3 Star Review
2009-11-27 - I had been a huge fan of the Mummy Series. I loved the action and adventure that they held in each movie. The 1st movie was amazing and I also loved the 2nd one because of the family feel to the movie as they included their son. In this movie, I was really dissappointed. The acting was ok but I wish they would have gotten the original Evey (Rachel Weisz). The movie seemed really off without her. Overall though the movie did NOT live up the 1st 2 movies standards. Reallly disappointed especially since I am a huge Brendan Fraser Fan!!

ok, totally not good but i love Brendan Fraser 3 Star Review
2009-11-26 - Really, not that fan of a plot here. You would think that with all the money thrown into this sure thing. Hollywood could hire some great writers to knock this out, but they didn't. They spent lots of money on everything but the plot. Still good if you are on a plane or home sick!

A Breath Of Fresh Air 4 Star Review
2009-11-24 - Different mummy. Different country. Different wife. Brendan Fraser still plays the role excellently and, if there is an unfortunate sequel, I hope he continues with the role. While most people found Maria Bello a bad choice to replace Rachel Weisz, I wasn't bothered by it. Not as much at least when they replaced Dick York with Dick Sargeant on Bewitched. Bello had her own interpretation of the character and she delivered. Jet Li was an interesting choice for a mummy and I wish the actual actor featured more in it but the few scenes he was in were good, but the Emperor seemed to be a stronger villain than Imhoptep. Though the emotional conflict which Imhotep possessed is missed. Michelle Yeoh, again for the few scenes she was in were good, the fight with Jet Li being the best. The supporting cast however is where this movie fails. The supporters of the villain (along with their goal) is too generic, the son doesn't even resemble the character from the second film and the girl playing Yeoh's daughter is stiff. But the special effects are excellent, the final sequence being the standout. The chase in Shanghai is good but drags a bit. The Yetis look good but whoever thought up that idea should be fired; they come completely out of left field and add nothing to the story. And the music is good, capturing the location of film well.
