For almost two decades, Mariah Carey has stood the tests of time. Through highly publicized failed relationships, rumors of emotional breakdowns, and speculation of a finished career due to declining album sales and unfavorable reviews concerning her act

    Definition of a Diva Reviews:
Entertaining And Inspiring! 4 Star Review
2009-09-26 - This unauthorized documentary is entertaining and insightful for it's portrayal and picture painting of Mariah's true status of being the definition of a diva. Not only is the tone positive and real but it depicts a music artist that had to struggle and overcome huge obstacles to get where she eventually got. This was not a picture perfect rise to the top but rather an account of how Mariah had to overcome many negative aspects--not only from the press and people but from her inner conflicts and over exhaustion. Once a viewer ends the entire process of listening to the documentary it's apparent that Mariah has drive, determination, and talent but most of all an inner instinct to keep going no matter what!

The video quality is pretty good and has a menu to choose chapters, the photos selected from childhood to adulthood were absolutely classy and sexy at the same time. The narration was a perfect English and very nicely and pleasantly done. Ironically, some music videos were presented in the background [It's Like That] which did not go with what was being mentioned which is the reason for my 4 stars rating. Being unauthorized there are no performances or music however there were clips that showed a happy Mariah with positive things to say very uplifting and inspiring to watch. There were a few speakers that also brought much pizzazz and life to the viewing. There were tons of information on sales, albums, personal life, and just details I had not ever seen in any other documentary-- so I was very impressed.

The best thing of this video is the fact that it not only gave Mariah the merit she deserves but that it also explained the history behind the music business at the time, the history of the Afro-American community [even including Martin Luther King] but that it brought life, facts, and much eye-candy. If you are a die-hard fan then this will be a nice addition. Newcomers will not only see how Mariah began but they will admire her success at such a path of obstacles, and road blocks that many would not have been able to cross.

Songs mentioned were numerous detailing record sales, performance settings, traveling, and album by album details. It explains her first marriage, her love interest for Luis Miguel and how her first albums were mainly pop with some hints of R&B barely there. When she broke out of the beginning she emerged with a more hip-hop R&B edge thus bringing newer styles that many to this day find fascinating provided they like that blend. The entire viewing takes the albums to the Emancipation of Mimi Era and is a 2006 production.

Slideshow gone bad! 1 Star Review
2009-02-23 - OK, my opinion I don't even know why this disc was even published. The information they give about Mariah are 9/10 incorrect. Visual effects are horrible; I could have made this myself, and it would have turned out better than this. Many reading goofs, that could have been corrected before being released. I am a huge Mariah fan, but I am ashamed to own this DVD because it gives false information. The cover is horribly photoshoped. The DVD itself is nothing but a bunch of pictures (slideshow) with someone reading a bunch of false information. I would NEVER recommend to anyone to purchase this DVD. True Mariah fans will find this DVD VERY disappointing. New fans will get their heads full of incorrect information.

I'm sorry but this DVD is a huge THUMBS DOWN!!!

    Terrible DVD 1 Star Review
2006-08-16 - Definition of a Diva was obviously made by inept people. This DVD had false information about Mariah. It was terribly put together. It looked like it was done by amateurs. This DVD is a complete DISAPPOINTMENT. It reminded me a lot of a home video the way it was brought together. This DVD gives Mariah a bad reputation. IF you buy this DVD, you're only wasting your money. This DVD deserves 0 Stars.

2006-05-08 - I dont know what to say, but this video is trash, all I see just moving pictures of Mariah from left to right or top to bottom, Mariah is not there, I dont think she even know about this video, shes not even in this video. Please use your money for other DVD

Please dont waste your money 1 Star Review
2006-05-01 - this DVD is an absolute waste of time and money ..most of the facts and information are wrong and the video production looks like it was done in the mid 80's...not to mention the narrator sounds like a nervous seventh grader. Please dont waste your money...I would give this DVD no stars if I could!
