From The Globe Mariah Takes The Crowds By Storm! 5 Star Review
2009-09-26 - This is Mariah Carey touring around the globe with her fans, displaying confidence, attitude, but most of all warmth to embrace the crowds touching hearts, moving feelings, and pumping the fans for more, more, more! While there are a huge array of R&B and pop artists few have the "natural" born and "natural" inherent talent given through the grace of God and blessing as does Mariah! She is "that" diva, "that" natural, down-to-earth, beauty "inside and outside" to give love to her fans through her music, singing, and overall performance--thus giving an all around entertainment to fans all over but mostly in touching hearts! From Japan, Hawaii, Australia, New York, and more she wows the crowds and brings joy to some, tears to others and love to all!

All time classics and definite cherish-able numbers would be "Whenever You Call" as it is a duet with Brian McKnight definitely the best in the selection of "most" impacting to view as well as "I'll Be There" featuring Trey Lorenz, "My All", "I Still Believe" and her beautiful "Hero" where she is seen very emotional in the very beginning of the song. Aside the ballads, there are fast numbers like "Honey", "Dreamlover" and the hip-hop "Fantasy" with O.D.B. on the screens. Exclusives like "Hopelessly Devoted To You" a duet with Olivia Newton-John and one on one breaks in between numbers gives an up-close Mariah.

From the Butterfly Reprise/Emotions and Fantasy numbers in Hawaii she embraces fans from the audience to come and show the typical customs like "hang loose" as well as giving funky dance moves with the other dancers thus embracing some love for hip-hop as well as R&B. "Dreamlover" brings her diva style performance more pizzazz as she sports a lovely black gown with sparkly crystal-like shimmer definitely classic and beautiful.

Stand-outs definitely highlighting her soft vocals and elegance are plenty as "My All" [Tokyo, Japan] features her in a natural flesh colored dress, and hair picked up bringing the lyrics, "I'm thinking of you in my sleepless solitude tonight if it's wrong to love you then my heart just won't let me be right 'cause...". My favorite performance to name only one would be, "Whenever You Call" with Brian McKnight as the words, singing, and overall viewing definitely touched me. Brian McKnight was like I've never seen before and Mariah was singing from within as if she was feeling every single word, every single emotion, and every imagination in the world. She shined, Brian shined, it was true magic. Some words, "I won't hesitate at all whenever you call, And I'll always remember... and be the one to catch your fall whenever you call...."

Mariah appreciates her fans as she is seen hugging them and asking them to participate with her in songs like the highly impacting "Hero" definitely classic favorite! She introduces her 2 dogs Bing and Bong to Japan fans and asks for someone to take care of them. In New York her fans pour there love and appreciation as they traveled from long distances just to see her. She comments in between songs to explain how she began her career --first as a backup singer with Brenda K Starr. It was Brenda K Starr believing in her talent [far surpassing back-up] thus reinforcing the song "I Still Believe" to much more significance as Mariah states, "the song brings a new meaning...". They are seen together speaking of this as she later sings it [in New York] eloquently. In a beautiful short black dress she pours out her heart and soul to the words bringing audiences to such silence and thought that only a viewer can sense--definitely impacting!

Aside, the ballads, choreographed routines, and mid-tempos, Mariah Carey interacts with the crowds, takes breaks to even try foods of the customs [Australia] and gives her down-to-earth personality a front spotlight. She is seen hugging fans, signing autographs, and stating just how much she appreciates their love and support. She values their gestures and gives the viewer the "true" qualities that make her so remarkable. It's not just about the whole package of dancing, singing, and looking good but about reaching others. This world wide tour of fans, and cities give a deep look into Mariah. Off tour [in between] she is seen in Australia swimming with the dolphins and expressing her love for the outdoors and it's peacefulness. Her vibe throughout the show is soft, peaceful, and spiritual yet fun and happy. Controversy is not her thing, it's being herself--classy but not superficial, sexy but not overtly, and flashy but not tasteless.

The DVD [1998] not only features the journey of her tour all around the globe plus lyrics displayed in various language choices if you want, but also 4 amazing videos: The 2 hip-hop/R&B styles: "The Roof" with some excellent rap and "Breakdown" featuring Krayzie Bone & Wish Bone. Aside those edgy sexy videos she has the 2 soft ballads "My All" and "Butterfly" definitely heartfelt and romantic! It's 60 minutes of enjoyment packed with Mariah up close, the concerts around the world, the videos, and her thank you's to her fans for their love, and support. It's a way to give back to her fans what means so much to them. As she says,"I wouldn't be here without you".

A jumbled mess. 1 Star Review
2008-05-17 - Mariah Carey - Around the World is not even a full-length concert, some of the songs are not completed and the intimate conversations with her friends are boring. Mariah even lip-synch's on some of the tracks and her dancing is not great. The only performance I liked was her duet with Trey Lorenz on I'll Be There. This is Mariah's worst concert DVD ever! Don't buy it because it is just segments of live performances, a disappointment.
