A Lack Luster Effort 2 Star Review
2009-09-27 - While the Music Box Biographical Collection series tend to have average accounts on many artists and celebrities this one seems to lack luster, appeal, and much pizzazz. There is no menu, no positive or inspiring statements said with true excitement but rather a bland uninspiring account that not only detracts attention from Mariah's phenomenal achievements but it sadly gives a negative portrayal focusing much on negativity at times and just seeming bland and boring. The only excellent quality is the fact there is a long Mariah Interview on the tiny TV screen giving a very extensive Mariah response to a European interviewer. Other than that, the entire viewing does not live up to its potential.

The effortless account became apparent when the speakers showed little enthusiasm, combined with the fact they did not give solid facts to back up their claims. At one point, some may assume Mariah was in a psych ward for being crazy. This was poorly explained because Mariah has definitely explained that her overwork combined by her personal problems did cause her to feel too exhausted at times. This was not revealed but rather a negative Mariah with a Glitter fiasco release and the list goes on. The sound of the video was terrible and the Interview sound was "extremely" difficult to understand. Either my English is weak or it was just plain bad. I'd go for the latter. The Interview was from Mariah's earlier eras and was a bit lacking in the sense she was a bit nervous [or so it seemed]. On the whole, it may not appeal to many who are expecting the happy Mariah many see on other interviews.

The entire viewing is a bit exhausting after a while from squinting the eyes to see the tiny TV Interview, to hearing the hard to understand commentators, and finally the negativity and bad portrayal of Mariah to a degree. The record sales were so glossed and shortened that obviously this had no merit as to finding the facts or getting the information right. There is no information or talk about the Emancipation of Mimi but rather her very early albums--none of which I can really go into since it was so uninspiring to watch and so bland. Unless the Mariah interview is of interest then it's best to consider what you are looking for and save your money!

BIGGEST CON SINCE MADONNA'S EXPOSURE TO THE 'ENTERTAINMENT' WORLD!!! 1 Star Review
    2006-11-05 - FANS - DO NOT BUY THIS - WE'VE BEEN HAD!

Guys when I tell you that some mean-spirited, evil person (Madonna, Cameron Diaz, Marshall 'used to' Matter; shoot, maybe even Chris 'I Adore Myself Above All Else' Martin) concocted this and released it as a genuine 'homage' - please believe me.

Were it not for the fact I couldn't save my review without it, I wouldn't have rated it with any stars at all because it quite frankly doesn't deserve the honour of a single one. Since I WAS forced however - the one I did give it is for Mariah's name and the professional looking sleeve - it has all the clarity the entire DVD does not!

It's pure nonsense with the WORST graphic clarity I have EVER seen since, and I'm talking pre-digital age, old-school wooden televisions - bad.

Basically, it's an inaccurate recounting of Mariah's 'so-called' life so far; told through the eyes of journalists who haven't actually done ANY research or fact-checking whatsoever - it's as if they never heard of the concept! Prime example being one particular 'journalist' who got the film AND title song after which Mariah was named so matter-of-factly, wrong. Another one gets her birth-date wrong entirely!

I hadn't seen this before I bought it (obviously), because if I had I would immediately have denounced it to anyone who would listen before I wasted money outbidding some other poor sap for it on a "rival site"! But PLEASE take my word for it - it's INACCURATE, it's of HORRENDOUS AV quality (the entire thing is shown on the 'screen' of some tiny Clip Art telly box in the centre of the screen, with NO sound filtering whatsoever), and quite clearly, it's a rip-off.

You'll only be conning yourself if you still buy it after this - I for one know I want my money back.

    Don't buy!!! 1 Star Review
2005-12-19 - This is the most boring Mariah video EVER made!!!!!!! I am the most loyal Mariah fan ever and i couldn't even watch the first 5 minutes of this crappy documentary! Even Mariah would be ashamed!!!!!

Don't waste your money 1 Star Review
2005-11-26 - It looks like amatures put this together. The quality is very poor. I know it says An unauthorized documentary film on it but most of the time they are usually at least good. This one is very very very bad. I'm a big Mariah Carey fan and I couldn't watch more than a few mintues of this documentary.

    Don't buy! 2 Star Review
2005-11-06 - These people putting together these dvds are not with any of the signes mangagements or related to her in any way. They're trying to make money off of famous people they also made a dvd like this for Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

    Theres NO music from Mariah!

Its not really even a documentry, its really boring!
