Editorial Review:
The third single to be taken from the album Emancipation Of Mimi is the double A-side 'Get Your Number/Shake It Off'. As with the two previous singles, Mariah joins forces with Jermaine Dupri to co-produce two of the albums standout tracks. Island. 2005.
Get Your Number/Shake It Off Reviews:
R&B Excellent
2009-09-27 - Mariah Carey's single is off her big selling sensation, The Emancipation of Mimi. It's a phenomenal single packed with R&B, dance, and mid-tempo beats definitely sensational. The title track is backed by the hit song "We Belong Together" Atlantic Soul Radio Edit, Secret Love, and Enhanced Video.
"Get Your Number", the first song has a fresh beat definitely complimentary to a singles or lover's paradise as it features wanting to get someone's number for a great time. It's fun, flirtatious, and definitely catchy. The video in the end is quite seductive yet sweet as Mariah knows where to draw the line--it's her trademark. Just enough is the key!! This song and video will get your moods to feel great.
The "We Belong Together Atlantic Soul Radio Edit" has thumping bangs, heavy paced beats, high energy, and rapid singing. The melody is not like the original song as Mariah's vocals are much more highlighted along spirals, of tech-no trance effects pulsating, and thrusting the dance vibe all throughout. The entire listening is about 4:22 minutes.
"Secret Love" has a great hip-hop edge as the background beats and vibe include more elements of funk. There's a rap featured artist in the background singing, "Hands in the air, common!!!" While the theme of the song is not my top selection, for it's implied imaginings, the beats are catchy, infectious, and great. A secret love can be interpreted to be many different things including a lover who is so special as it's best to keep quiet for a bit. This has excellent R&B, hip-hop beats for sure!
Infectious
2006-04-24 - This is just one of many excellent tracks of Mariah's latest album "The Emancipation of Mimi". It's her alongside Jermaine Dupri, and immediately upon listening to it you know it's a hit. It's very fun, extremely catchy, and will probably be a big summer jam heard blaring out of car radios everywhere.
I bought the album when it came out last April and was constantly listening to this track. It will refuse to leave your head; it's the epitome of a good pop song: Fun, original, catchy, made to be sung along to.
Another hit :->
2006-03-11 - I love almost all Mariah music and this song is another one of her fantastic songs. It's good to have a little beat to a new release of hers as opposed to all the slower ballad type songs of late. This is an excellent song about being in a club, and checking out a guy who actually wants her digits too. Good dancey song that I'm sure will be yet another hit. If you want to add to your collection all of her songs, then you must buy this because there is another song here called Secret Love that you won't find anywhere else. Good marketing ploy. Both songs are great and Get Your Number will probably be another top 10 hit if not a #1.
Very Good
2005-11-30 - I like this single a lot because there are three different songs on it as well as the music video for "Shake It Off". The third song "Secret Love" cannot be found on the Emancipation CD, so this is a good single to add to your collection if you are a Mariah fan.
Great Production
2005-10-12 - Mariah and JD make great music together. Yes they are stricly friends but their chemistry in the studio really shines through in the production of these songs. Get Your Number and Shake It Off are simply flawless in my opinion. This cd also has the previously unreleased super smokin' track entitled Secret Love. This is a must have cd for any Mariah music collector.
