Editorial Review:
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is packaged in a beautiful 3-panel softpack. A must-have for all Mariah fans, it will include: - The CD - A 2nd Enhanced CD featuring the "Obsessed" video, a remix video, and 3 remixes
- a 36 page Elle mini-magazine that's an inside look at Mariah.
First came the emancipation, then came energy and power, and now come Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the new album by international superstar Mariah Carey, scheduled to arrive on September 29th. The first new single pick from Memoirs is "Obsessed,". The video for "Obsessed" is directed by Brett Ratner. "Obsessed" was written and produced by Mariah, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who are responsible for the majority of tracks on the new album. Memoirs was executive-produced by Antonio "L.A." Reid. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the 12th studio album of Mariah's career, is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her RIAA platinum-selling album E=MC² (released April 15, 2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (released April 12, 2005). Both were Soundscan #1 debut albums that made chart history for Mariah in the U.S. and numerous territories around the globe.
The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. The album debuted at #1 on first week sales of 404,000 copies, Mariah's highest first week sales total (until E=MC²;). Soundscan's biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's.
Three years later, E=MC²; debuted at #1 on first week sales of 463,000 copies, which now stands as the highest first week sales total of Mariah's career. The album's success brought total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 160 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.
E=MC² spun off four singles: "Touch My Body," "Bye Bye," "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," and "I Stay In Love." Of these, "Touch My Body" made history when it became Mariah's 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, thus surpassing Elvis Presley. "Touch My Body"'s two weeks at the top also marked Mariah's 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis' long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated in Billboard.com. At the same time, Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel Reviews:
Yet Another Throwaway Album from Ms. Carey
2009-11-08 - I was a big fan of hers back in the day, that voice simply could not be matched. Now that it is completely gone and she is resorted to cooing and squeaking like a phone sex operator, you would think that she would amp the music up to compensate for it (like she did with 2008's infectious, addictive, masterful E=MC2, which remains my favorite album of hers to date). Here, though, you merely find one bland, dull, boring, lackluster ballad after another, with a few mediocre uptempo numbers with obnoxious, embarassingly weak hooks thrown in for good measure. It's really quite pathetic when the first single from an album is as good as it gets. If you like "Obsessed", just buy it alone and don't expect anything just as good or better from this horrible, horrible album. Mariah, either do what you did with E=MC2 or retire, but please don't record such drivel ever again.
Well put together! Luv it!
2009-11-08 - Got this CD last week. At first listen (like most CDs) it didn't sink in. But after listen # 2, I can't get enough. It's well put together with some nice RnB jamz. I can honesty say that all tracks sounds great. But I still have my favorites. H.A.T.E.U. is going to be smash single once she releases it. Up out my face, Standing O,More than just friends,Angels Cry, Becha Gon' Know, and Candy Bling are single worthy as well. But like I said, they're all good. It's a must have not only for Mariah fans but anyone who likes RnB. It should go on to sell quite a lot once word gets around. Surprisingly it didn't debut at #1 on the Billboard charts, but i would be hard pressed to find a better album for 2009. Hey Mariah...u on fire! Luv you baby!
Flawless piece of Work
2009-11-07 - Overall the CD is a beautiful rendition of Mariah at her best. Her melodic lyrics blending with her haunting yet memorable harmonies makes this her best CD yet. Each song folds into one another to set the mood of poignent memories. This CD can be heard at any time to conjure up thoughts of love, romance, disappointments and triumphs. This is the complete Mariah.
Her Best in a LONG time
2009-11-07 - I didn't love this album at first listen but the more I listen to it the more it grows on me. It's right up there with musicbox/daydream/butterfly. Don't be mislead by the lead single or album cover. This album has something for everyone. I LOVE every song. Each song is like a different stage of love: falling in love, being in love, lusty love, puppy love, heartbreak, etc. She sounds genuinely happy on this album. It's different but enjoyable.
I hope she sings with a real band backing her on her next CD. Or make a real dance CD and market it as such. She should work with Lady Gaga. I actually liked the two songs Lady Gaga wrote for Britney Spears.
No Vision of Love for Imperfect Angel Mariah
2009-11-05 - Well, I really tried to like this new cd but alas, old Mariah is trying to capture the young hip hop crowd with these mindless tunes, example "up outta my face". Mariah, is too talented to play this game. She needs to grow up and class up. She already is the best cougar EVER, okay. Both she and Madonna should stop running around half naked trying to prove how beautiful and young they are. People are laughing because it's a little pathetic. Oh yeah, and the music kinda sucks.
