Say Somethin' Reviews:
Get That "Party" Mood On High!
2009-09-27 - This double track disc has swagger, funk, and hip-hop combined with dance firing up the juices for getting "in" the mood. Whether it's to party, get the courage to go up to that special someone, or just kick back and take pleasure in. Mariah's singing is definitely soft, breathy at times and powerful blended to an amazing sound. Snoop Dogg delivers his rap portions with much charisma, appeal, and bad boy edge!
"Say Somethin'" featuring Snoop Dogg [album version] has a great rhythmic beat with much pizzazz and catchy hooks. The messages from the song are definitely on the lines of "I'm ready for you". From my listening experience I imagine an eye to eye meeting with that special someone and knowing the "bad boy" is hot but feeling extremely interested. Mariah sings, "Tell me why we're standing here?... You got my mine blown and I'm ready to go..." Snoop rap's "Most girls play shy, but it won't hurt if you give it a try..." The element of the music, themes, and sensation are edgy, catchy, and definitely a sing a long type.
The second track is a definite club favorite, "Say Somethin' Morales Radio Edit". The beats are rapid, filled with echoes, swirls, bass-lines, synthesizers, and elevations that go up higher and higher then take a dive. Mariah's vocals have a high pitch at times not heard on the previous track. There's soulful beats along club effects that are comparable to the night at the dance-floor as the club is closing but the place is still jamming! The chorus singing in the back also gives it a nice soul element to make this a phenomenal selection to dance until you drop, shake, or just enjoy!
Excellent mix!
2009-01-04 - Although it is not labeled as such, this is a remix by David Morales. It is the Morales Stereo Anthem. Mariah went into the studio and re-recorded the vocals for this mix.
I really like this mix. I prefer this over the original version. While that is good, this one can be thought of as a whole other song as the vocals are slightly different and there are lots of fun ad-libs. Fans of Mariah's dance remixes will enjoy this one.
This new sound isn't so new afterall, but is still excellent
2006-06-27 - Wow, Mariah and the Neptunes really came through with such a fresh sounding track. Snoop and Mariah always sound so good together. This sound is supposed to be a new step in music but it really just sounds like they are paying a tribute to PRINCE. The Morales remix is typical and predictable but well worth buying the single for. Oh, and the cool cover art is more reason to buy this single.
