Editorial Review:
Early buzz on The Emancipation of Mimi predicted that this would be the disc to mark "the return of the voice"--the voice being that glass-shattering instrument that propelled Carey to bestselling female artist of all time status--and mostly it is. But because of the small army of talent involved in its assembly, the album is way more than just a comeback vehicle. For proof, try straight-ahead, look-out-Beyonce-Mimi's-still-got-it "Mine Again," or '70s-soul cuddle-up, "Circles:" a don't-attempt-on-American-Idol love song, or the gospel dazzlers "Fly Like a Bird," and "Stay the Night." But for songs that steer this disc directly into 2005, no looking back, scan the jewel case for the tracks followed by the word "featuring": "To the Floor," with Nelly, bumps along to maximum booty-shaking effect, while Twista spins his natural-disaster-force vocals into "One and Only." Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Jermaine Dupri also pitch in; between them and the highwire vocals, Emancipation works the kind of pure-pop magic that sets us all free. --Tammy La Gorce

The Emancipation of Mimi Reviews:
Dont call it a come back she been at it for years
2009-12-04 - i personally have to say that Mariah is the best singer song-writer and has the most uniqueness of them all i know all the words to this entire album. joy ride is genius and you would have a great time listening to it beginning to end because its so catchy. I also love so lonely part 2 which takes over one and only its sexy and firing u can relate to. the last i will comment on because i love all of them is Fly like a bird. i not a huge fan of gospel music but as Mariah continues to perform it i would love me Mariah is my Messiah. this song shows off her voice and she lets you know she still has it she great and (i wish her well only true mariah fans would know where i got that from) lol she's my best and i will never give her up she impresses me everyday
Easily her best cd
2009-11-19 - This is a very diverse CD, ranging from pop to urban to funk and R&B. I think it's her best album ever, easily, including the not too bad new "Memoirs of An Angel". Yes, Mariah's voice can be too breathy, but many times it has real strength on this cd. What makes this album strong is the diversity of the music styles and arrangements. It reaches out to a number of different audiences, without disenchanting any of them. She's not in the top 5 female vocalists in this century and never will be, but this is the mark she should target for the rest of her recording career. Sing it hard, rich, strong and diverse, Mariah.
