Marilyn Manson - Guns, God and Government World Tour Reviews:
Celebrity Touring
2009-07-21 - A work reflects transformation of Marilyn Manson from a country noisemaker to a world celebrity spreading his antics round a world.
Much interesting than Marilyn Manson : Birth of the Anti-Christ both theatrically and on mere technical merits as DVD professionally concludes some off-scene material collated to sustain scandalous image of an artist.
Great live performer.
2009-06-12 - Even if you hate his music, his image, his beliefs, etc., one thing that cannot be denied...MARILYN MANSON IS ENTERTAINING!!!! Great lived DVD indeed. Awesome concert footage and back stage antics. Deviant Goth fun!
An Awesome Film!!!
2009-05-30 - One day after listening to the very disappointing CD, The High End of Low, I received this in the mail. It was an awesome experience! I felt like I was at a Marilyn Manson concert. I loved to see what it looked like while he was singing. My favorites songs were The Reflecting God, The Fight Song, Disposable Teens, and Sweet Dreams. Some of the things he did were funny like humping members of his band, and much more. I highly recommend MARILYN MANSON: GUNS, GOD, AND GOVERNMENT WORLD TOUR!!!
May Not be for Casual Fans of Marilyn Manson . . .
2009-02-08 - Casual fans of Marilyn Manson, ie those fans that mainly love Marilyn Manson because of "The Beautiful People", for example, may be disapointed with this DVD outing. Unless you have several of Marilyn Manson's CDs, and, have listend to them many, many, times, and, know the words to the songs... you will not know what he's singing most of the time in this DVD. The live setting may be great for theatrics, but you better know the words to the song beforehand, as you not likely learn them be watching this concert DVD.
There are several things that I found distracting, due to my personal tastes in a music concert presentation.
1. Although the songs are presented in sequence, with no break-aways to any non-concert activities, footage from different gigs are presented --within-- each song.
2. The way the concert film was edited, it only allows just a very few seconds on any one shot, before changing to another shot, for just another few seconds, and then onto another shot for a few more seconds. This "MTV" style of video presentation does not give one the feel of what it was like to be at the show, except for what you can get in those 1-3 second shots. Short editing is good for some effect, but I think not, for an entire concert...
3. The DVD's use of blurred blocks over some fans eyes, and, some other fans breasts, was cheesy. It made me think I was watching a 'Jerry Springer' show...
4. If you like crotch-grabbing, then you will not be disapointed with this film, as their is an overabundance of it, all through the entire show.
I am a casual fan of Marilyn Manson, and I will stick to listening to the selection of Marilyn Manson songs that I like, and I will watch videos of them on You Tube. I will not be watching this DVD again.
Portrait of Controversy
2008-12-09 - I can honestly say that I am not a big fan of Marilyn Manson's music but I do support his First Amendment right to speak as he pleases. With the said the Guns, God and Government World Tour of 1999-2001 was one of the controversial artists defining moments.
The video was filmed all over the world so that we never get an actual show but a collage of several shows from all over the tour. I'm not a big fan of concert films that are put together this way but everyone can make their own decision on the merits of this approach.
The film features 17 of Manson's songs including powerful versions of such classics as Disposable Teens, Beautiful People, The Dope Show, Sweet Dreams and Lunchbox. The band with the addition of new guitarist John 5 plays the music quite well.
The disc features the concert and a 30 minute behind the scenes feature called THe Death Parade.
