Remix & Repent Reviews:
An EP from Marilyn Manson's Musical Prime 4 Star Review
2009-06-24 - 1996 began the best musical era of Marilyn Manson, the Tryptich era (1996-2000, or Antichrist Superstar-Holy Wood). 1997 saw the band make an effort to remix and give Antichrist Superstar lovers some live material. With 2 remixes and 3 live performances (1 acoustic) the album has more 'repenting' than remixing. Keep in mind Marilyn Manson is an INDUSTRIAL metal group, not just a metal group, so remixing should be part of any industrial artist's repertoire. Vocalist and lyricist Marilyn Manson was successful in his goal with the album Antichrist Superstar (he said he wanted to make an album as classic as the records he grew up with and he definitely accomplished that). That poses a question, "Why a remix album if the regular was good enough?" Well maybe the group needed to prove their remixes could be more than just shock rock scares (i.e. Smells Like Children), maybe Manson wanted to show an industrial side, maybe he was taking an idea from producer Trent Reznor, maybe he just wanted to. But whatever the reason, this 5 track ep was a success. Let's dig into the actual remixing work.
"The Horrible People" did a great job of reconstructing the metal classic "The Beautiful People" by rearranging the song's structure, using more distortion effects and adding entirely random parts (listen to the very beginning). This was the better of the 2 remixes. "The Tourniquet Prosthetic Mix" is disappointing after hearing the talent shown in the previous remix. It is much more simplistic. A mediocre mix in which the group could've done much better. Onto the live section. Tracks 3 and 4 show the band at their best live, before Manson's voice, well to be honest, began to suck. The closing track has an intro of a Christian man discussing items that don't fit in with the religion then begins the acoustic playing with some electronic parts here and there. Again this was when Manson could scream and in this case sing as well. Beautiful closer. Definitely get this after purchasing Antichrist Superstar.
P.S. This may not make any difference in any of your lives but this review was not written by the user but her son. She is more likely to write reviews on literature so if foreign films or books interest you, that is where her reviews would most likely be discovered (if she wrote any).

Crap. 1 Star Review
2008-06-04 - I used to be a Manson fan, back when this came out. This release was Manson's attempt to be like NIN and make more money off of remixes, but you know, Mansons songs aren't the type of songs that ever need to be remixed. I am tired of someone taking decent guitar riffs, putting a crappy beat behind them and chopping the F*** out of them and that is really all this is. The only Manson fans that can listen to this are the ones that think his new crap is good.

The Master 5 Star Review
2007-09-19 - Marilyn Manson as an artist created something not many where able to in the history of music.
In the time of ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR he showed his further creativity by doing the REMIX & REPENT - EP.
Btw: The CD was worth buying in the USA and waiting 5 weeks to be here in Germany even as they don't sell it here. ...and it was cheaper though there were costums duty ;-)
