Editorial Review:
At Fox she was the blonde everyone preferred. Marilyn Monroe: Platinum Fox celebrates the twenty films and character portrayals Marilyn brought to life at 20th Century-Fox. The relationship between star and studio spanned the entire length of her career, a time in which Marilyn became the studio’s most valuable asset while evolving from a pretty brown-haired girl in a blue pinafore who passed before the camera in a flash to the sizzling platinum blonde who splashed seductively in a pool in her last moments on film. Illustrated with hundreds of photos from the Fox archives (many published here for the first time), this unique volume is filled with behind-the-scenes notes, trivia, film storylines, and character profiles. The images coupled with quotes by the wittiest screenwriters of the day, plus memorable moments created with Hollywood’s leading directors and cinematographers, show why Marilyn remains the most incandescent star the screen has ever known.
Marilyn Monroe: Platinum Fox Reviews:
Big Book full of Fluff
2008-08-28 - This book is overdesigned and thus a bit hard to navigate. The text is distracting. It claims to have many never before published images of Marilyn, but in fact I have seen all the images in this book prior to purchasing it. If you're looking for a nice picture book of Marilyn, skip this one. It's limited in it's scope and is so poorly designed that the copy/text distract from the images of Monroe. Boring, fluffy, irritating.
Beyond Expatations
2008-08-04 - This is one of many books I have about Marilyn, and it is far and above any of the other books by a long way....The quality of paper to the quality of writing is supurior to all the rest... There are pictures in this book that are NOT in any of the other tomes written about her...
Best investment I've made in a long, long time
Great coffee table book
2008-03-24 - I bought this as a gift for my sister, Marilyn. It has "never before seen photos" of Marilyn Monroe plus her own notes attached to the pictures. The price was about 50% less than a well-known book store.
Nice Book
2008-02-19 - Really nice book with some "new" photos I haven't seen before. Though I'm puzzled by the book designer's choice of illustration style-making Marilyn seem like a brunette on the cover.
A Fantastic Job Well Done
2007-11-07 - This coffee table book lovingly put together by Cindy De La Hoz is a fantastic job well done. Now, this is the kind of job I would have liked: poking through the 20th Century Fox archives and talking to the staff there. What this has done for Ms De La Hoz is to provide her with some additional photos and details of the films of Marilyn Monroe that have never seen the light of day. I have been collecting MM since 1959 and have amassed an incredible trove of information and photos and even I am amazed at the newly released photos. I'm sure you've all seen the one canoe shot of MM from Scudda Hoo Scudda Hay but here there are four more photos from this film, including behind the scenes shots. That alone sets the tone for the rest of the book - some familiar photos and lots of new photos. I applaud the author's efforts and have placed this book in a prominent place in my book case.
