  • Editorial Review:
In the criminal justice system, sexually based crimes such as rape, torture, pedophilia and child-abuse are dealt with in New York City, by a special unit of the police department known as the Special Victims Unit. Its members include Detective Olivia Benson, herself the child of a rape, Detective Elliot Stabler, a family man trying to protect his family from the horrors of the world. The crimes they deal with are painful, emotional, and scarring. These are their stories.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Eighth Year Reviews:
Show is great, DVD production is crappy 5 Star Review
2009-10-01 - I have followed this show from the beginning and have only praise for it. The quality of the DVDs is another story. I had stopped buying seasons because everyone arrived with labels that looked as if they had been scraped with sand paper. I only relented and bought seasons 8 and 9 when they went on sale. Full price for product quality of this mediocre level is a rip off.

Great show, great characters 5 Star Review
2009-09-24 - Ever since I first saw this show, it has been my all-time favorite. I've watched the DVDs several times and never tire of them. The plots usually take several different directions and that always keeps my interest. There is no other show that I've seen where I like all the characters so much. Any one of the SVU DVD sets is absolutely worth the money.

    Excellent series 5 Star Review
2009-09-14 - Law and order SVU is one of the best series on TV. This is the best out of the whole franchise.

Never ceases to amaze 5 Star Review
2009-07-15 - I have been following Law and Order SVU for only about a year or two since I started picking up reruns on USA Channel. I believed for a long time that I had seen just about every episode there was until I started collecting them on DVD. It's actually a shame that the discs are not available on bluray because although it's not a show heavy on Special FX, all GOOD TV shows are worthwhile on bluray. Anyway, this season of SVU does not miss a beat compared to the seasons before and, this is a feat in itself since it almost stands to reason that any show after 8 seasons starts to wane in maintaining interesting story lines, begin to fail to attract heavy-weight guest stars, and, most importantly, most shows inevitably lose their fan base after so many episodes. None of this is true with SVU. As I am not an "original" fan, I don't know if their fan base has actualled dwindled or if they simply have just picked up new fans along the way, but if the guest-star-spot appeal is any indication, this season of SVU is only growing stronger. With guest stars like Cary Elwes, Michael Michelle, Blair Underwood, Tim Daly, Bernadette Peters, Kim Delaney, and Kal Penn, among others, as well as returning faves Mary Stuart Masterson and Marcia Gay Harden, the show seems to still pull out all the spots on mass appeal, including these hot stars. For this reason, SVU has become, in such a short period of time, one of my absolute favorites. It is no wonder that I have bought every single season from 2 - 8, so far. I just ordered season 9 so my collection is only short seasons 1 and 10, which of course I will get eventually. I watch episodes over and over again and they are always entertaining, disturbingly so, but entertaining, and riveting and enthralling. One of my favorite episodes in season 8 is the last episode, SCREWED, where, another returning hot guest star, Ludacris, almost literally screws the entire SVU family. Nail-biting, edge-of-your seat, must-see TV.

Law & Order: SVU season 8 5 Star Review
2009-07-08 - Season 8 of Law & Order SVU is a great addition to any crime drama junkies' collection. The action and drama of the episodes combined with the chemistry of the detectives of the special victims unit make for great entertainment! This season includes interesting twists on crimes, special guest stars, legal maneuvering, and forensic work, both technical and biological. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of newly televised episodes onto DVD.
