Editorial Review:
In paying tribute to her roots, Martina McBride doesn't merely cover a selection of classic country favorites, she conjures an entire era. You'd swear that was Floyd Cramer playing piano on the album-opening "You Win Again," and Chet Atkins picking guitar on the following "I'll Be There." The steel guitar featured so prominently throughout Timeless recalls a time when country sounded distinctly--and proudly--different from rock, while the background chorale on "I Can't Stop Loving You" and "Once a Day," as well as the soaring strings on "Rose Garden," remind one of the "countrypolitan" crossover sound. Except for a delicate rendering of Johnny Cash's "I Still Miss Someone," McBride's versions don't really add anything to the originals, because these songs weren't missing anything. But she makes "I Don't Hurt Anymore" sound as fresh and pure as it did when Hank Snow recorded it more than a half-century ago, while her rendition of "Till I Can Make It on My Own" has all the brittle conviction that Tammy Wynette invested in it. --Don McLeese

Timeless Reviews:
Ho Hum
2009-06-30 - I Recently bought "Time Has Come" on an impulse out of a Walmart sale bin. LOVED IT!!! So then, picked up "Timeless". Yawn. I was bored stiff with most of the tracks. All done better by others. Admittedly, I am not a major country fan. I just know what I like. Then I received my first Carrie Underwood CD, "Carnival Ride" as a gift and was blown away. That girl can sing! I'm afraid Martina paled in comparison, at least for my taste. I think the "Timeless" songs, all famous standards do nothing for her, whereas the songs on "Time Has Come" all really worked with her voice. Just my opinion. If you are new to Martina, I'd start with "Time Has Come".
The songs themselves are "Timeless," but not necessarily these versions
2009-06-24 -
Martina McBride doesn't embarrass herself on these covers of some of country's greatest hits, but she really doesn't add anything to the party either. With slavish devotion to the originals, she recreates, but does not embellish these songs. There really is no individuality here, which is a shame because McBride can sing, but these versions just make you think of how much more affecting the originals are. Perhaps the best thing this CD can do is make you search out other versions of these songs and see what can be done with some imagination.
TIMELESS TRIBUTE TO THE LEGENDS OF COUNTRY MUSIC
2008-08-25 - This collection of cover songs is such a welcome change of direction from Martina, who always tends to ride the country/pop fence. Martina does a great job of breathing new air into old classics. If you enjoyed the original recordings of these songs, you should enjoy this album. My favorite off of this album is her remake of Sammi Smith's "Help Me Make It Through the Night."

GREAT RECORDING
2007-10-27 - One of the best CD's that we own. Great songs and great singer. Satin Sheets and Help Me Make It Thru The Night are awesome. Martina is truely one of a kind. Great bargain - 18 Timeless Country songs.
