  • Editorial Review:
Matt Damon returns as highly trained assassin Jason Bourne, who is on the hunt for the agents who stole his memory and true identity. With a new generation of skilled CIA operatives tracking his every move, Bourne is in a non-stop race around the globe as he finally learns the truth behind his mysterious past. Loaded with incredible fight and chase sequences, it's the exhilarating movie with "mind-blowing action" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times) that you can't afford to miss!

Description of The Bourne Ultimatum (Widescreen Edition):
The often breathtaking, final installment in the Bourne trilogy finds the titular assassin with no memory closing in on his past, finally answering his own questions about his real identity and how he came to be a seemingly unstoppable killing machine. Matt Damon returns for another intensely physical performance as Jason Bourne, the rogue operative at war with the CIA, which made him who and what he is and managed to kill his girlfriend in the series' second film, The Bourne Supremacy. Now looking for payback, Bourne goes in search for the renegade chief of CIA operations in Europe and North Africa, partnering for a time with a mysterious woman from his past (Julia Stiles) and constantly--constantly--on the run from assassins, intelligence foot soldiers, and cops. Directed by Paul Greengrass (United 93) with the director’s thrilling, trademark textures and shaky, documentary style, The Bourne Ultimatum is largely a succession of action scenes that reveal a lot about the story’s characters while they’re under duress. Joan Allen, Albert Finney, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, and Paddy Considine comprise the film’s terrific supporting cast, and the well-traveled movie leads viewers through Turin, Madrid, Tangiers, Paris, London, and New York. Overall, this is a satisfying conclusion to Bourne’s exciting and protracted mystery. --Tom Keogh

The Bourne Ultimatum (Widescreen Edition) Reviews:
    Bourne Ultimatum 3 Star Review
2009-11-01 - This was a let down from the first two in the series. It looks like they had to get something out and did not think it through properly.

it won me over in the end 4 Star Review
2009-10-24 - but it does NOT excuse it from being pretty darn bland and uninspiring during the first half.

The main problem with the Bourne Ultimatum is that there was almost no build-up in the beginning of the movie, and that meant no reason to really care about the characters, especially Matt Damon's character.

For the first half of the movie, we were basically going into the storyline head-first, and left with a lot of confusion as to what was going on, and why we were supposed to care about this guy that kept running away, getting involved in conflicts, and constantly baffling the FBI as to his whereabouts.

The film started winning me over once the action picked up, and especially when a particularly lengthy fight scene took place around halfway through. It was about 10 minutes before this scene took place when I finally said "Hey, maybe this movie has a shot to be a good one".

It ended up a better movie after a while, though it's probably the kind of storyline you have to pay VERY close attention to understand, so you can't afford to daydream while some very important clues in the development of the storyline are taking place. Smack yourself if you start daydreaming :)

The ending was great. In fact, it was the best part. The very end I mean, because it sums up what you've just experienced while watching the film for the last two hours.

I do wish the beginning with the story development was better executed though, because jumping right in and having a guy constantly running around with a gun in his hand was just confusing to me. Other than that, pretty good action movie.
