Editorial Review:
Essentially a greatest-hits package, Capitol Punishment presents Megadeth highlights and also demonstrates via a couple of new tracks that sneering frontman Dave Mustaine hasn't lost his knack for steel-plated fishhook riffs. The band's career can be broken into two separate parts: the early L.A. days and the Arizona relocation period. The early fury is illustrated by the likes of the high-speed "Holy Wars," the conspiratorial "Hanger 18," and the classic brain-shaker "Peace Sells (But Who's Buying?)." More recent material, while not quite as visceral, proves that Megadeth were always smarter than 99 percent of their metal peers. While stalwart supporters already know most of the material here, Capitol Punishment is a perfect sampler for those considering delving into Megadeth's lore. --Steffan Chirazi
Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth Years Reviews:
the best
2002-04-21 - I like is cd Ican some it up in 4 worlds it is the best
Shoulda been a double CD, but sill good
2001-05-18 - There's a lot of good hits on here, but there's a lot of good stuff that's missing ("This was my life"? One of the best songs on Countdown!). Still, a must-have for any new fan of Megadeth or old one whose missing albums. DO NOT buy this, however, if you already own all of Megadeth's albums. One of the two new songs is on "The World Needs a Hero" and you should't buy an album for one new song.
I thought there was too much missing. How about getting rid of that absolutely useless hidden track ("WOW! Sound Sampling! I've never head that before!") and putting in two more songs instead. Even better, a double CD!
Megalife with Capitol
2001-05-14 - Clearly, you wanted more. As well as many of us did - including probably Capitol. But has any compilation ever satisfied everyone? (try to be honest answering the question).
It works anyway. Most of the cornerstones, i.e. huge, officially recognized hits are present on the cd, and any of the fans would be pleased with Peace Sells, Holy Wars, Hangar, Symphony, In my darkest hour, and a lot of more recent material. You'll find here even Crush'em (no matter how much you like or dislike the track).
Two brand-new tracks (the last published by Capitol) are strangely also here, sound not bad and leave a great deal of a hope for their new album.
Just try to enjoy the contents of the cd, if you already bought it. If you haven't - buy it anyway.
Capitol Punishment... For All
2001-04-24 - Being a huge Megadeth fan, I am glad to see them bringing themselves out to the masses again. If you are a hard rock/ heavy metal fan, you owe it to yourself to buy this album. It is a great way to dive right in to the world of Megadeth. Symphony of Destruction is my favorite, and the new tracks rock better than ever. After purchasing this album, wait for the new one, "The World Needs a Hero", and watch as heavy metal rises from the ashes again... and as the posers fall to their knees...
A True Mega Cd!!!!
2001-03-19 -
I Read All The Reviews And I Own The Cd!
I'm Dissapointed In The "Wish I Was One Of The True Mega~Fans" That Gave This Album A Bad Rating!"
As A Friend Of The Band" I Agree With Many, The Older Songs RULE! .....But I Also Like All The More Recent Songs. The Whole Purpose Of A Best Hits Album Is To Display The Bands Best Work, Not Every One Likes Speed Metal. Some Like The More Mellow Heavy Metal Sounds And Some Never Heard Any Of These Songs At All. (And I Think This Album Is Mostley For Them) So They Can Choose....Speed Or More Mellow Sounds.
I Think Any One Who Never Bought A Megadeth Album Before Should Buy This One.Then You The Mega~Fan Can Choose
1)Speed Metal
2)Heavy Metal
3)I Just Love It All!!!
MEGADETH RULES THE METAL COMMUNITY!
P.S. Fans Of The 85-92 Years Buy The New Megadeth Album May 15th 2001 Titled "The World Needs A Hero"
