Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good! Reviews:
MEGADETH'S DEBUT
2009-12-06 - never really liked this album, always sounded cheap and crappy. but this remixed and remastered version shows what early MEGADETH were all about.the first 7 songs on this cd make this worth purchasing.DAVE'S pissed and angry and that's when he's at his best.i know they had to severly edit THESE BOOTS,probably should have just left it off this re-release.
This Version is F*****' Censored !! I'm Very Dissapointed
2009-11-01 - Megadeth's BEST album !! the music, the musicians, the remixing and remastering...ALL TOP NOTCH !
BUT "THESE BOOTS" IS F *****G CENSORED...WITHH A BIG LONG LOUD BEEP OVER HALF OF THE SONG!
This was a birthday present :o(
By the time you have opened the CD and heard this horrible perversion of the freedom Megadeth stands for it is too late and you are stuck with an inferior product :o(...
OTHER THAN THE EDITING OF THIS ONE SONG...THIS ALBUM RULES !!!
A DISAPPOINTED MEGADETH FAN :O(...
XXX
Classic Megadeth...
2009-09-17 - Annoying bleeps in, "These Boots", yet it has supurb sound quality compaired to the original.
AMAZON COPY IS EDITED!!
2009-06-22 - I ordered this from Amazon since the original copy I had did not have the bonus tracks. The song "These Boots" is filled with that goddamned bleep every other line. When I buy music, I do not want anyone to tell me I have to listen to it in a way that was different from the musician's original music. If you want censored, get this, If not, spend the few extra dollars at BestBuy.
89/100, Awesome debut by my favorite metal band.
2009-02-12 - AUTHOR'S NOTE: I recently moved over to a new review system in which I rate each song and then create an average rating for the whole album rather than just giving the album a rating based purely on my general feel for the album. This allows for a much more accurate and unfortunately a much harsher rating for each album. Because of this my new number ratings may not match up with the star ratings on my older reviews when I updated them with this new review system. Thanks for your understanding.
Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica, and he was pissed. So what did he do? What anyone in his position would have done of course, release an album of his own that would be faster, heavier, and more deadly to the ears than Metallica's, that not only directly attacks Metallica's first release (Kill 'Em All) with the name of the title track and album, but also with the song "Mechanix". I don't have anything against Metallica and actually enjoy their early stuff quite a bit but this whole thing is quite despicable if you ask me. Anyway, the album turns out to be some of the best thrash metal I've had the pleasure of listening to. Dave's vocals are awesome in my opinion and very unique compared to other singers in the genre at the time. The relentless guitarists tear through song after song and never slow down. The drummer sounds very organic and fluid.
"Last Rites/Loved To Deth"-Very technical and filled with truly excellent riffs. The lyrics and singing are villed with emotion, easily one of my favorite Megadeth songs. 9.5/10
"Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!"-The kind of song that tells you what a band is all about. In this case it says that Megadeth is fast, vicious, angry, and out for blood and revenge at any cost. This song is also a direct lyrical attack on Metallica that is very noticeable if you are well versed on the history between them. 9/10
"The Skull Beneath The Skin"-The excellent thrash songs just keep on coming. It seems like Dave just effortlessly pulls these amazing riffs out of thin air. This one is no exception and a fan favorite. 9/10
"Rattlehead"-Sure the lyrics aren't exactly what you would call elegant or mature, but they sure are fun to headbang to. Has a great main riff as well, a song designed to headbang to. 8.5/10
"Chosen Ones"-Great drumming and solid guitar work. One of the weaker songs on the album but still good. 7.5/10
"Looking Down The Cross"-A true masterpiece and very underrated. The lyrics are genius, the vocals are great, and musically the song is very progressive and technical while still retining that great thrash feel. 10/10
"Mechanix"-If you don't know the story behind this song yet you desperately need to get caught up on your thrash metal history. Dave wrote the song "The Mechanics" and it ended up on Metallica's No Life 'Til Leather demo and then they kicked him out. he asks them not to use any of his material, so they just simply use it anyway and claim that he never told them not to. In the case of "The Mechanics" since Dave wrote all the music and lyrics so Metallica couldn't legally use ti in any sense. As a result they simply slowed the music down and changed the lyrics and called it "The Four Horsemen". Of course then Dave renamed it "Mechanix" and then sped it up even faster than it already was on the demo. Both are very catchy and overall great songs, so you decide which one you like better, but I know I much prefer this Megadeth version. 8.5/10
"These Boots"-An interesting cover. Very fun song to listen to. It was taken off of this album for a period of time because of an ongoing argument with the original artist. Now it's finally released to us again but has all of the swearing bleeped out (at request/demand of the original artist) and while you probably won't be listening to it much because of this, it provides some good laughs hearing all those bleeps. Because of this the rating I'm giving it is based on the original cover without the bleeps and I won't include it in the average. 8/10
My favorite tracks on the album are "Last Rites/Loved To Deth", "Looking Down The Cross" and "Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good!". The remastering takes this album to a whole new level thanks to the vastly improved clarity in sound. There's also demo versions of "Mechanix", "The Skull Beneath The Skin", and "Last Rites/Loved To Deth" on the remastered version as bonuses. The awesome album art that was originally intended but never got used is on here now along with side notes on every song describing the song and the band's feeling towards it and such.
This is Megadeth's angriest album by far, and as a result it also has the most emotion and spirit as well. It's a great album for any thrash metal fan, I highly recommend it. Great overall package that is more than worth it for any Megadeth fan.
