Editorial Review:
After being booted from Metallica in 1983, Dave Mustaine put together his own band Megadeth and two years later released the mediocre Killing Is My Business ... And Business Is Good. At the time, it seemed clear who the real genius in Metallica was, despite Mustaine's claims to the contrary. But a year later, when Megadeth unraveled Peace Sells ... But Who's Buying, Mustaine's boasting took on new relevance. Despite some rather inane lyrics, the disc is one of the most powerful and contagious thrash records of the era. In addition to the propulsive title track, the album features the scorchers "Wake Up Dead," "Black Friday," and "My Last Words." The band would later simplify and commercialize its sound, but here is where it shines darkest. --Jon Wiederhorn
Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? Reviews:
Peace Sells...But Who's Buying Finally in 5.1!!
2009-09-14 - for years i've owned the original CD print of peace sells, and when dave mustaine digitally remastered the entire back catalog i slowly started replacing my collection, then when i got to this album to my surprise there is an audio-dvd completely remastered and remixed in 5.1 surround and OMG does it completely revamp this classic piece!! and it's not your ordinary AC3 dolby but dts surround instead. for those of you who do not have access to dts decoding setups worry not cause this also contains the entire album in high resolution pcm stereo as well. plus (yes there's more) in addition to all that also included is the music videos for wake up dead as well is the title video peace sells. plus on top of that a bonus multi channel mix of devils island giving for the first time listeners to hear dave's guitar, chris poland's guitar, and david ellefson's bass - gar samulson's drum tracks all independently from each other!! this is a must buy for any megadeth fan and even new coming megadeth fans alike. it's like falling in love with the album all over again. buy yourself a copy already and don't doubt if you're getting your money's worth cause you get that and way much more!! big thanks to the guys in megadeth, and dts entertainment for this release
peace sells...but who's buying
2009-09-13 - the cd was in great condition it played like it was brand new from the store.if you are a heavy metal, thrash fan or just like megadeth this cd is a great investment and the arrival was conveniently quick and i am proud to say this is my favorite megadeth cd
Rust in Peace>Peace Sells
2009-07-14 - I don't see how in the hell this album is mentioned in the same breath with Master of Puppets or Reign in Blood! Besides "Peace Sells" and "Wake up Dead", the rest of the album is nothing special to my ears. Rust in Peace kills this album. Peace Sells and i'm not buying! For other thrash, check out Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Pantera's "Cowboys From Hell" and of course 80's Metallica only!
Old Megadeth fans beware
2007-06-11 - Mustaine went and pulled a George Lucas on us! These songs sound like they've been re-recorded! Let alone 're-mastered'. This album doesn't sound the same at all anymore - in a really 'less heavy' kinda way...it's completely bizarre and quite an unwelcome surprise. Jeez Mustaine, why you fixin' stuff that ain't broken? I'm tempted to pawn this off man. He ruined his own material.
Peace sells, and more people were buying. 3.5 stars.
2007-06-02 - More of the same metal musings from the poison pen of Mega main man Mustaine . On this sophomore release Megadeth take their thrash blueprint and add a far better production job to the brew with better songs writing and a bit more mobility to the mix. All of which makes for an improvement in the bans ability to raise their profile.
Musically it's the same crew from the debut locked into their roles. The thrash metal here is once again mostly anonymous filler metal. Yet where the debut only had one to-die-for tune in the form of the title track this album has two such numbers in the guies of the slow burn single Wake Up Dead and the more frenetic Peace Sells. Both, though especially the latter, hvae been embedded into metal folklore. Not to mention the great video for Peace Sells.
Anyway, I still can't justify giving this collection more than three stars due to the general sameness of a bunch of the tunes. And the thrash here hasn't yet morphed into the metal meltdown of Rust in Peace or Countdown to Extinction. Yet the rise of Mustaines machine can probably be said to start here, the first real rumblings towards being part of the 'big 4'.
