Risk Reviews:
WRONG!!
2004-11-08 - Megadeth are a great band who have played a major part in revolutionizing the entire heavy metal genre with their aggressive style and technically proficient songs. This is not, i repeat NOT, Megadeth.
Okay, the album isn't all that bad, and would earn a third star if anyone but Megadeth were playing it. as it is, RISK is a misguided disco/pop-metal style album, and is without doubt the worst thing Dave Mustaine has ever done in Megadeth's ten-album history.
Things start off well with INSOMNIA, a rocking track that creates nice atmosphere and retains some of the fire of previous Megadeth releases. it's followed by PRINCE OF DARKNESS, a step away from the expected but still good enough to warrant a listen.
But by CRUSH EM, you realise how little of real Megadeth is actually on this album(it's a DISCO tune! DISCO!)However this track is saved from crapness by being so damn catchy it is unreal
After that, this is sludge. WANDERLUST is the best of the rest, a quiet, wistful song reminiscent of Bon Jovis DEAD OR ALIVE, but Mustaine is barely audible on the track and there is maybe one very silent electric guitar present on it. The likes of SEVEN and ECSTACY give it the old college try, but by the time you reach them the mantra THIS IS NOT MEGADETH WHAT HAPPENED(say it fifty times) will be running through your head. As for I'LL BE THERE...one word: RELATIONSHIPS!!!
If there is one truly good thing to say about this album, it is that it goes to prove that pop metal is equally as hard to do as heavy metal, and that for a band to be able to do it well, it has to be doing it all it's life. RISK should be bought only if trying to complete a collection or if you like pop music, Megadeth fans should download the first three songs and forget the rest.
FIVE STARS FOR RISK???!
2003-01-23 - If RISK receives a five-star rating, does it mean that is as good as RUST IN PEACE? Or CRYPTIC WRITINGS? OR PEACE SELLS? You must be kidding...
It isn't a "Risk Disk"
This is a wonderful CD. The band breaks its believings and creates a new style. In this new line-up they make the music to be more hard and powerful. It's a shame the Menza's leaving. And I think we should clap to Friedman because of his good working: he gives up Megadeth with Cum Laudem. Although it was born as "Risk", I don't think it's the appropriate name, because of the quality and virtuosity of the songs, I don't think the releasing of the CD was a Risk. After hearing the CD I feel more expecting about knowing how will be the next one ("The World Needs a Hero") and how wonderful they can make it. The only thing I'd regret to them would be the fact to publish a second disk without any unofficial published song: "One Thing", "Crown of Worms", ...
