Upon Further Review 5 Star Review
2009-09-13 - I didnt like it the first time i listened to it when it came out and i never gave it a second chance up until a couple days ago and i dont know if my ex-wife and i had words and i was mad when i heard it or what because it is a great album and i recamend it to anyone.

68/100, Megadeth comes back from the dead with their best album in a decade. 3 Star Review
2009-08-03 - Dave has recovered from his possibly career ending nerve injury and has restarted Megadeth with Chris Poland back on board. Can you imagine the excitement that Megadeth fans felt when they heard this news? Then when the old-school looking album art was shown it seemed to confirm fans' hopes that this would be Megadeth's big comeback. Well unfortunately this album didn't deliver, although it did come closer than previous albums had and it still gave us a few new songs that were surprisingly good. The vocals are angry and the lyrics are mostly politically charged. The guitar work is varied, it has mostly simple riffing with the occasional great one and some great solos. Ellefson is no longer on bass, a sad departure in all fans' eyes I'm sure but there's nothing we can do about it. The bass work by his replacement, Jimmy Sloas, is competent enough but it's nothing that will get you excited. The drumming is noticably better than on The World Needs A Hero but is still pretty simple stuff.

"Blackmail The Universe"-The album starts to get into a good groove here. The drumming is surprisingly solid and the guitar parts are catchy. 7/10

"Die Dead Enough"-Has a very cool intro. It's a pretty melodic song but I really like it. I seriously can't get this song out of my head, I listen to it at least a couple times a week. 8/10

"I Know Jack"-A pointless and short interlude between "Die Dead Enough" and "Kick The Chair". I',m not going to rate it or include it in the average.

"Kick The Chair"-The first true thrash song Megadeth has put out since "She-Wolf" from Cryptic Writings. I'm not the biggest fan of the lyrics or vocals but it's thrash again and I really can't complain. 8/10

"Of Mice And Men"-Insightful lyrics by Mustaine. I don't like the special effects put on Dave's voice but otherwise it's a solid song. 7/10

"The Scorpion"-Some of the worst lyrics Dave has ever written. Musically it's kind of catchy and overall solid. 6/10

"Shadow Of Deth"-Kind of a fun song albeit pretty cheesy. Once the song gets going it actually sounds a lot like Countdown era Megadeth. 7.5/10

"Something I'm Not"-Childish yet applicable lyrics. Overall a boring and passable song. 5.5/10

"Tears In A Vial"-Some good riffing going on here. Sounds a lot like a song that could have been on Youthanasia. 7/10

"Truth Be Told"-Could have done without the bible references and the slower parts of the song should have been scrapped. 6/10

"Back In The Day"-Dave sounds pretty good here on vocals. There's some solid guitar work here and some great melody. 7.5/10

"My Kingdom Come"-Don't like Dave's vocals on here. The guitar and drum work is solid enough though. 6/10

My top three tracks on here are "Die Dead Enough", "Kick The Chair", and "Shadow of Deth". Dave essentially uses this album to start to get Megadeth back on it's feet and bring it back to it's original reputation of one of the best thrash bands of all time, and my personal favorite. It's the most solid thing they've put out since Youthanasia but it's still far from the genius that was their first four albums.

good for repeat listening 5 Star Review
2009-05-03 - I honestly disliked most Megadeth albums after RIP as "thrash". CTE was good but kinda too slow and kinda pop. Everything after CTE was either not enough defining as anything but trying to continue from CTE with more songs, which got old like less than halfway through Youthanasia, or they were just altogether bad. This one is different, every song is left reverberating through your head even after it's over, the album never gets boring. I don't think this one would have sounded good faster, it's good at the speed it is, and a good buy even if you're not a Megadeth superfan.

Good service 5 Star Review
