Editorial Review:
From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the heroic Autobots® and the evil Decepticons®. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the Decepticons® and ultimate power is a clue held by young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Unaware that he is mankind’s last chance for survival, Sam and Bumblebee, his robot disguised as a car, are in a heart-pounding race against an enemy unlike anything anyone has seen before. It’s the incredible, breath-taking film spectacular that USA Today says "will appeal to the kid in all of us."
Description of Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition):
"I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" deadpans Sam Witwicky, hero and human heart of Michael Bay's rollicking robot-smackdown fest, Transformers. Witwicky (the sweetly nerdy Shia LaBeouf, channeling a young John Cusack) is the perfect counterpoint to the nearly nonstop exhilarating action. The plot is simple: an alien civil war (the Autobots vs. the evil Decepticons) has spilled onto Earth, and young Sam is caught in the fray by his newly purchased souped-up Camaro. Which has a mind--and identity, as a noble-warrior robot named Bumblebee--of its own. The effects, especially the mind-blowing transformations of the robots into their earthly forms and back again, are stellar.
Fans of the earlier film and TV series will be thrilled at this cutting-edge incarnation, but this version should please all fans of high-adrenaline action. Director Bay gleefully salts the movie with homages to pop-culture touchstones like Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, and the early technothriller WarGames. The actors, though clearly all supporting those kickass robots, are uniformly on-target, including the dashing Josh Duhamel as a U.S. Army sergeant fighting an enemy he never anticipated; Jon Voight, as a tough yet sympathetic Secretary of Defense in over his head; and John Turturro, whose special agent manages to be confidently unctuous, even stripped to his undies. But the film belongs to Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the dastardly Megatron--and the wicked stunts they collide in all over the globe. Long live Transformers! --A.T. Hurley
On the DVD
The special edition of Transformers is packed with extras (and more than a few product placements for Hasbro). The entire second disc is devoted to featurettes on aspects of making the technical tour-de-force--and the land mines involved in tinkering with a beloved '80s franchise. Executive producer Steven Spielberg is very much a part of the proceedings, from his introductory comments ("I think everybody likes the idea of taking something you're familiar with and turning it into something you're not so familiar with--like an 18-wheeler become Optimus Prime") to mentions of his films that influenced this one, like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Director Michael Bay is brash and entertaining as he talks about his initial reluctance to take on the project, his indoctrination at "Transformers U" at Hasbro, and his enthusiasm for guerrilla-style action filmmaking. Star Shia LaBoeuf says, "He is the sickest action director" out there, and there's plenty of evidence here to support that. Other great highlights include features on how key scenes were shot, including the heart-pounding desert battle and the shootout in the streets of downtown L.A.--adrenaline-pumping stuff, even without the Transformers CGI'd in. --A.T. Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition) Reviews:
Beautifully Awful Film
2009-11-02 - I understand who this film was created for. It was created for 14-22 year old men who like watching explosions, special effects, and hot women. On those three counts, this film was a rousing success. I, on the other-hand, enjoy outdated concepts like writing, dialogue, acting and a funny thing called "plot".
The movie is just so badly put together from a thinking mans point of view. Don't get me wrong, the film is a beautiful spectacle. The effects used to create the robots are astonishing. The way Bay refused to hide the effects in darkness was a bold move, and it worked. However, The Dark Knight proved that you can make a smart, thinking mans film, based on a concept generally aimed at children. And on top of all that plot, acting and dialogue, there were also massive special effects. Outside of the visuals, Transformers failed to be even an adequate film on nearly every level.
Here is the most maddening part of the film:
* The military has a cube that the decepticons want. The cube is in a heavily guarded military installation. What is the most logical thing to do with it? Why drive it into the middle of a populated city of course!
If you choose to watch this film, please do yourself a favor and watch it in BluRay with full digital surround sound, and shut off your brain. Just eat popcorn drink soda and "feel" the film for what it is. A vehicle for Michael Bay to show you all his neat toys.

Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen
2009-10-27 - Received very fast. I think I got mine in the mail 1 or 2 days after it came out. And you definitely could not beat the price. Everywhere else seemed to be $27.99 or there abouts. I got mine for $20.00 from Amazon.com. Thanks guys. And thanks for the Free Shipping.
Please rate the TRANSFER, CONTENT and not the film
2009-10-26 - By the time a movie is transferred to Blu-Ray, the fans already know the film by heart either from the theatre or the many earlier incarnations of the film... what I care about is the quality of Blu-Ray transfer before I plop down my hard-earned dollars. A great example of super Blu-Ray reviews are those Amazon customer reviews for PREDATOR - those reviews told me a lot about the transfer and the extras, and warned me that I probably didn't want to invest in the current Blu-Ray release.
Excellent Movie to test out a Home Theather System
2009-10-23 - I always use this Movie, The Italian Job, and The Dark Knight when I have friends over to show them my Home Theather System. The Sound and the special effects in this movie are amazing. I have a 46" SONY Bravia XBR6 with a Denon Receiver and Klipsch RF-62 Home Theater System.
Last night Oct 23, I rented TRANSFORMERS REVENGE OF THE FALLEN on Blu-ray. It was ok. I enjoyed watching the first one better.
Dazzling, inventive, well scripted Entertainment

Don't miss the first film in the Transformers series. It's very well written, and very balanced. Extremely entertaining film, and easily Bays best film. Funny, fun, and the best action in any film I've ever seen. Fabulous to look at...details that knock you out. The only thing people complain about in the first film is that during the serious action in the city in the last part of the film, that it's difficult to follow. It's really in one sequence, where giant robots are falling into the sides of buildings to slow their fall from above, but what happens after you watch the film a couple of times, is that you begin to see exactly what is going on...and then it actually becomes even more impressive. Michael Bay challenges the viewer with his visuals...it's not jump cuts, etc. being overdone...what Bay creates is real density and power, which works to overwhelm us, which is what should happen to anyone who is anyway near these giant robots duking it out. The slo-mo moves are so hip...bots spinning laterally and then firing into the ground to boost their spin, etc...are probably the coolest action moves I've ever seen, or will ever see. Kudos to the wild guys at ILM...they are on a serious roll. The second film is all over the place...and has it's gifts, but this first film is excellent on all levels. Megan Fox plays the dingy babe just right. And watch out when she gives the big smile...cause it will knock you over. She not as well used in the second film...not her fault. Watch those scenes in the car with her and Shea when he's trying to start the car...perfect.
I'm 58 years old...love my Cocteau films...Antonioni...the classics...big jazz guy...but this movie is a real party.
