Editorial Review:
For better or worse, David Mamet's hit play Sexual Perversity in Chicago is watered down into this romantic comedy about a couple (played by Rob Lowe and Demi Moore) who get together and then fall apart due to Lowe's character's inability to commit. Jim Belushi is on hand as the gratuitously swinish best friend who looks at women as meat, and Elizabeth Perkins is entertainingly arch as Moore's gal pal and Belushi's nemesis. There's nothing about this 1986 film by Edward Zwick (cocreator of TV's thirtysomething and director of Glory and Courage Under Fire) that is at all reminiscent of Mamet, but that doesn't make it bad or dull. While one can feel the script straining to fill in gaps where chunks of the original play have disappeared, Zwick often successfully tells the story without words at all, relying on the actors to convey pure emotion. Lowe is good, and the then-willowy Moore's understated performance reminds one of the actress she might have been before she became a spectacle. --Tom Keogh
About Last Night... [Region 2] Reviews:
80s Nostolgia; The Ultimate Chick Flick
2009-12-05 - The film version of the play, Sexual Perversity in
Chicago, was brought to the big screen in 1986.
Boy meets girl, they fall in love...... Buy it,
sit back and enjoy. In these rough times we all
need a good laugh and love story. Demi Moore
and Rob Lowe star with Elizabeth Perkins and
James Belushi.
The quality is excellent.
A classic
2009-12-01 - I haven't seen this movie in years and decided to watch it again. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, and that it still seems relevant. Jim Blushi is a riot. It's amazing to see Demi Moore. She looks so different now it's hard to imagine that's even her.
80's movie
2009-11-23 - A movie from the 80's for those who lived through that time. See Demi Moore prior to her "enhancements".
About Last Night
2009-11-01 - I purchased this to demonstrate certain concepts to my clients. I am a family counselor. The concepts were demonstrated in a light hearted manner but clearly got the idea across. It served my purpose well. The movie is also highly entertaining. However, I did not expect the profanity and sex scenes. Do not have children in the room when you view this movie! It also embarrased me slightly with my clients who had previouslyn viewed me as primarily conservative.
a good movie...
2009-08-17 - This is basically a movie about the adult single scene in the mid to late 80's. It's based in Chicago and is about a couple that gets together after a "one night stand" struggling with love and life. Throw in their friends that are not trying to help in the least (his is the typical @#$hole and her's the typical b@#$%). All four actors play their parts well and this remains one of my favorite movies from the 80's.
I've watched this movie several times and even bought the soundtrack. I recommend it for a good watch. This is back when Demi Moore was absolutely beautiful in my opinion
