Editorial Review:
AN FBI INFORMANT HAS KEPT HIS NEW IDENTITY SECRET FOR 15 YEARS, NOW AN OLD FLAME HAS RECOGNIZED HIM AND THE BAD GUYS ARE BACK FOR REVENGE.
Description of Bird on a Wire:
This action-comedy from 1990 makes the critical mistake of trying to mix a potentially suspenseful plot with the kind of humor that Mel Gibson can only get away with in his Lethal Weapon movies. It doesn't work here because the movie's supposed to be a Hitchcockian thriller and Mel's wisecracking--not to mention some implausible plot twists and ridiculous chase scenes--makes it impossible to take any of this movie seriously. It works best as a lightweight vehicle for Gibson and Goldie Hawn, who bring their own established appeal to their roles as old lovers who are reunited under unexpectedly dangerous circumstances. After testifying against some drug-running killers, Mel's been safe under the protection of the FBI's witness relocation program, and Goldie coincidentally enters his life again just as the bad guys are hot on Mel's trail. They join up and go on the run from the villains and ... well, let's just say director John Badham doesn't have any big surprises up his sleeve. Goldie and Mel are enjoyable, as always, but you'd have to be their biggest fan to watch this movie more than once. --Jeff Shannon
Bird on a Wire Reviews:
A SHOCKER!!!
2009-03-03 - At the time of seeing this film I was a Mel Gibson fan and a Goldie Hawn fan. But ..... words fail me.
bird on a wire
2009-02-23 - The movie itself is a little weird because you get this girl who is still obsessed with an old lover and stares at his photos and than poof he is back in her life, he tries to make it look like he is someone else but she comes back later to find two men trying to kill him. She helps him not knowing where he went or why he didn't come back to find her... but eventually it all makes sense... a movie about love and betrayl.
Bird On a Wire
2008-11-03 - I love this movie! Goldie Hawn and Mel Gibson make a good acting duet. it has funny moments and overall, thoroughly enjoyable.
Won't you want the father of your sons becomes meat for tiger, do you?
2008-10-16 - "Bird on a wire" gathers two emblematic actors, the always alluring and sympathetic golden beauty, Mrs. Goldie Hawn, with this human hurricane, the always restless Mel Gibson.
A delightful sexy-comedy-thriller where Gibson reencounters with his beloved sweetheart, after he has been sheltered by the F.B.I. into the well known witness relocation program. With a new identity, the strings of destiny will make he faces against the bad guys he sent to prison and at the same time she accidentally finds him.
So, this expected relationship will be spiced with the accustomed doses of hair raising chase sequences and that surrealistic stage at the end of the film.
Entertained but easy to forget. A bubble gum movie.
Fun romantic comedy-chase thriller
2008-08-11 - Beats me why so many people want to trash this action-packed screwball romantic comedy-chase thriller(especially at IMDb.com). Instead of comparing it to other Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn films, I compare it to other basically similar type films, such as "What's up Doc?", "Smokey and the Bandit", "High Road to China, "The Big Steal"(perhaps the granddaddy of this type of film), and, more recently, some of the Jackie Chan films.
The stunts have gotten much wilder and more numerous in recent decades, including this film. I love both Goldie Hawn and Mel Gibson as actors and to have them together in this type of film is just great.
