Editorial Review:
The lightest of the first three films, Lethal Weapon 3 finds everyone occupying comfortable positions like students who always choose to sit in the same classroom seats. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as LAPD partners whose working method consists of the former diving into danger and the latter holding back. (The sequence set in the parking garage of a building, in which Gibson inadvertently trips a switch that makes a timed explosive device speed up, is priceless.) Joe Pesci once again plays a motor-mouth pest, and while the story is pretty much forgettable, it does introduce the best new dynamic in the series, a romance between Gibson and Rene Russo's equally tough but attractive cop. --Tom Keogh
Lethal Weapon 3 [Region 2] Reviews:
Lethal Weapon 3
2009-06-26 - Mel Gibson's zany character contiues to interact well with his partner to present another fine episode in the Lethal Weapons series.
Riggs & Murtaugh are Back!
2009-03-23 - Riggs and Murtaugh return in this director's cut of Lethal Weapon 3. Once again Riggs and Murtaugh have a difficult case and a great deal of property destruction ahead of them. Riggs continues his endless heckling of Rog without fail. Now Riggs pratically lives in Rog's house and Rog is going to retire, Not. The DVD is an excellent copy of the movie and adds several scenes that make the story flow better than in the original movie. The movie has a good blend of laughs, romance for Riggs, and drama as Rog comes to realize what his retirment means for him and Riggs who is now part of the family. A very enjoyable film and a welcome break from the darker harder edge that was seen in Leathal Weapon 2.
Russo Makes This One Two Stars
2008-12-28 - They add Rene Russo to this movie to help us remember that Mullet Gibson is hetero sexual or at least to make us forget that the homoerotic love fest between he and Glover is strictly buddy buddy (yeah right). Mullet still hams it up with his tongue in cheek, wink wink, obnoxious Three Stooges gimmick and then they add Joe Pesci as a motormouth obnoxious cartoon character who actually gets on Mullets nerves though he can't see that his own stOOpid antics might make everybody else hate him as much as Pesci. This takes the Lethal Weapon franchise even further into funny book land and the movie suffers for it. It is more like Pesci, Gibson and Glover having a cutesy cutesy good time and letting the fans in on it than it is a good movie.
Good movie, but not as good as the others.
2008-10-31 - Now don't get me wrong, this movie is deffinetly a good and entertaining movie to watch. It has good action and a lot of comedy, however it is probably the worst one in the series. Lethal Weapon 3 seemed to tone down the movie series quite a lot. It doesn't have the same dark and erie feel as the 1st two do. I know it's rated R but it seems more like a family "budy-cop" movie than the raw and gritty 1st two of the franchise. The ending isn't that great and Riggs seems to have lost almost all of his Special Forces training and fighting like you saw in the 1st two, ESPEICALLY at the end of the 1st one. If i had to rate tem I'd rate them
Lethal Weapon = 5 stars
Lethal Weapon 2 = 4.5 stars
Lethal Weapon 3 = 3.5 stars
Lethal Weapon 4 = 4 stars
It's deffinetly worth seeing and watching but my suggestion is watch this 1 first so that way when you see it you wont be as dissapointed.
A fun, play it straight, cop action film
2008-03-22 - This is the first Lethal Weapon movie I've seen, and I must say I was thoroughly entertained. Though it might have been a disappointment to some fans in the series, I found it refreshing to see this one first, why? Because I think I can judge it better as a stand alone movie this way.
In Lethal Weapon 3, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover once again play as a mismatched crime fighting team Martin Riggs and Roger Murtagh. Riggs is an implusive young man who enjoys being in the thick of things,he also puts together insane plans to defeate the badguys within the span of two seconds. Murtagh is a slower moving family man who enjoys sitting back and having a nice cup 'o' coffee. This time around they have to fight a former police officer gone bad, Jack Travis, who stores up illegal weapons, and sells them to the highest bidder. Murtagh and Riggs have to hunt down and find the main before he can let out an almost discontinued gun, an extremely dangerous, armor piercing weapon that has apparently gotten into the hands of teens on the streets.
Though not great, the films acting works, and is able to support the emotional developements of it's characters. The music was fun, but not quite fantastic. The action sequences were highly entertaining, suspenseful? No, but entertaining none the less.
