Editorial Review:
Double vinyl LP pressing. Death Magnetic is the iconic Metal band's 10th studio album overall. and was produced by Rick Rubin. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica has become one of the most influential and commercially successful Rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. In addition, their 1991 album, Metallica, which has sold 15 million copies in the United States alone, has been awarded the prestigious "Diamond Award" from the Recording Industry Association of America, given to those albums with U.S. sales of 10 million or more.

Death Magnetic [ 2 LP ] Reviews:
Best since '88 5 Star Review
2009-12-29 - Unless your name is Marty McFly and you have a flux capacitor equipped DeLorean, the 1980's are over. Face it people...Metallica will never make Master of Puppets 2. It is 2009 this is Metallica now and the album they made is Death Magnetic, and it ROCKS!!! Death Magentic is great from start to finish and I believe it is their best work since ...And Justice For All. I have loved Metallica since I was a kid and this is the album I've been waiting for since 6th grade. Get this if you are a true thrash fan.

P.S.- Yes, unlike St. Anger, Lars DOES use a snare drum on this CD.

Finally! 5 Star Review
2009-12-27 - They came back and wrote some good music on this one. No complaints really besides imperfect production. Great vocals imo I dont like the vocal style of the first 2 albums. Great riffs solos. and Lars does a nice job here and finally uses some double bass blasts.

This is the real "flawed masterpiece" 4 Star Review
2009-12-27 - Death Magnetic is a very solid album. Considering what Metallica had just come off of I don't think anyone was expecting a good album. It has some very cool riffing. The solos are mediocre and mostly just wah wah solos. The vocals are tolerable on all of the tracks except for "That Was Just Your Life". The instrumental Suicide And Redemption is the best on this album IMO. James had solos in this one and he really shined. In the middle of the song there's a clean breakdown that really sounds like it should've been dedicated to Burton in To Live Is To Die.

Now for the flaws. The first is the production. The clipping on this album is horrible because of how loud it was recorded. If you turn it up really loud on your stereo the guitars are so loud they completely drown out the vocals. Second is the vocals. They are easily the worst Hetfield vocals on a metallica album, time has really taken it's toll. the lyrics are laughable, very juvenile, even worse than St. Anger. "What don't kill ya make ya more strong" MASSIVE GRAMMAR AND CLICHE ALERT! Kirk's soloing is nothing special at all, pentatonics, wah pedal. Track by track:

That was just your life - 4/5 - Fast, great riffs, amazing harmony section at the end.
The End Of The Line - 5/5 - Amazing riffs! Kirk did great on this solo and the pre-solo is,again, a great harmony.
Broken Beat & Scarred - 3/5 - Some good riffing but terrible lyrics and vocals.
The Day That Never Come - 1/5 - Weakest on the album. This is a terrible attempt to recreate a song that was once successful ("One", of course).
All Nightmare Long - 5/5 - Nothing else to say it's fast and it's heavy!
Cyanide - 3/5 - Good solo, I don't really like the main riffs.
Unforgiven 3 - 5/5 - Great song! A good installment to the Unforgiven trilogy and awesome solo. Strange intro.
The Judas Kiss - 4/5 - Chorus is awesome, the main riff seems too much like some bubble gum crap though.
Suicide And Redemption - 5/5 - FLAWLESS! Amazing James guitar work!
My Apocalypse - 2/5 - The drumming in this just kills it.

.... And Justice for All 2 5 Star Review
2009-12-21 - For all those old school die hard Metallica fans you will be happy to hear that the old Metallica is back. I have been a fan since I was teenager. Gone are the over produced songs of Bob Rock. Instead they hired Rick Rubin to produce this album. He was able get the best out of the band without "dumbing it down" to make it more commercial. Those 5 to 9 minute songs are back. Also they have given Kirk Hamet the green light to do what he does best, lay down some mean solos. This record has a similar feel and sound as ...And Justice For All. The one improvement is James vocals. He has always been able scream with the best of them. On certain parts of songs he will sing with a clean voice providing dynamics in the song. Over the years his clean singing voice has vastly improved.

Good to have the old school Metallica back.
