Metallica: The Halcyon Days (25th Anniversary Edition) Reviews:
WAY TO LONG, NOT TO THE POINT
2009-04-16 - I have seen Metallica live 5 times, and yes I did see them with Cliff...I am dating myself aren't I? The DVD's in this set are decent, but not what I expected. I like listening to their freinds talking about how cool it was in THE DAY being around the group. I lived in Berkeley back when Jason Newstead joined the band. I was at The Stone on Broadway watching Death Angel play, when all of a sudden the whole band came in with Jason. I remember talking with Jason about his future and he was nervous but very Stoked! I got to slam with James in the pit during the show, and even had a chat with him at the bar. Nice dude.
Getting back to the DVD. Like this review, it should have been cut in half. Going through almost each song on each album was kinda BOOOORING!
Although seeing Heathen was kinda cool. The original Bass player in that band (Eric Wong), used to give me Bass lessons and worked with me at Tower Records as Regional artists. I figured they broke up years ago, good to see they're still going. But lets face it, Metallica is still a very good band and this is worth watching once. Their new album "Death Magnetic" is the best since the Bassless "And Justice for all..". I was very pleased to have met these guys, even Lars in a record store once trying to be incognito with his sunglasses and backward ballcap... Those were the days.......3/5 on the DVD, 5/5 on the memories!

2008-10-20 - Anything I can view about Metallica is O.K., since I'm a new fan. This was not up to what I was hoping for: 1. not authorized by the band 2. more feedback from european journalists than I'd like 3. more negative feedback from ALL, which I don't care to see, after spending money on a product. If I could have, I would have returned it.
A DOUBBLE DVD COLLECTION FROM METALLICA!!!!!!!!
2008-10-15 - THE HALCYON DAYS IS A GREAT TWO CD COLECTION TO ADD TO YOUR DVD OR CD COLLECTION.A MUST HEAR AND SEE FROM METTALICA FANS FROM EVERYWHERE,YOU KNOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unofficial at best
2008-09-10 - the halcyon days DVDs are a series of interviews by people who were near the band during the times they each describe. Oddly enough, the soundtrack includes Metallica songs played by another group. The only Metallica footage seems to be the HBO footage from Woodstock '94, which is shown throughout the feature, whenever a song is mentioned that was on that setlist.
Cliff 'em All is a much better glimpse into the band's early career.
