She's beautiful, indestructible and unstoppable! RenÃ(c)e Soutendijk is "sexy and lethal" (Boxoffice) as Eve VIII, a sophisticated and deadly android run amok in this heart-pounding sci-fi thriller. "Genuine suspense and a terrific finale" (The Hollywood Reporter) set this action-adventure apart and above the genre...this is one Eve you just can't miss! Created in the image ofher inventor, Eve VIII is the flawless culmination of years of research. Or is she? When an unexpected mishap during testing sends her into a sudden, irreversible rampage, Eve begins stalking and killing anything she perceives as a threat. And now it's up to terrorism expert Jim McQuade (Gregory Hines) to find and deactivate her before she realizes her ultimate capabilitynuclear annihilation!
Eve Of Destruction Reviews:
Eve, You're A Disappointment...
2009-07-15 - I disagree with those who see this film as a "Terminator" rip-off and thus trash it, but if they call it below-par I'll go along with that. "Eve Of Destruction" has positive points, true, but they're simply overwhelmed by major weaknesses.
Eve VIII is an android created to resemble her creator down to minute details--including the scientist's memory. However, Eve VIII is a walking weapon that goes into combat mode shortly after being released into the public, which leads to the military calling in their antiterrorist specialist to track the android down. What follows is a path marked by several deaths, shoot-outs, a few hand-to-hands, and even a car chase!
"Eve Of Destruction" has a plotline that is clever: without giving it away, let me inform you that Eve VIII's trail has a lot to do with her creator's past. This movie has a sense of humor, too, although you might find the motel room scene to be the sadistic kind. The action scenes are handled well, especially when Eve VIII and Hines' Colonel square off. We musn't forget Renee Soutendijk, a stunning, leggy blonde who does well in her American film debut as the android's creator.
Unfortunately this movie suffers from an overabundance of action and a lack of character. Take Colonel Jim, for example, played by Greg Hines. By the end we still don't know anything about his past, his family, things that make us care about film characters. He doesn't exactly play the military specialist in a very sympathetic way, either (watch how he deals with Doctor Eve!). She, on the other hand, does get scenes that show you some humanity, such as her reviewing her little boy's anatomy lesson, which is funny. The flashbacks to her childhood also make us feel for her. More of these and less of the shoot-outs would have made "Eve Of Destruction" a solid film. As is, it's a mildly entertaining action film.
Hell hath no fury like a woman bomb.
2007-11-12 - The military's newest secret weapon is out for a test run when she is injured in a bank robbery. Her handler's death triggers her progamming so that she begins carrying out doomsday combat orders. Enter Gregory Hines as a special forces officer who is now tasked with stopping a threat he was never trained for: a walking nuclear weapon. The more he learns about Eve, the less he likes. After several failed attempts, he is trapped between her and an onrushing subway train. It is a no holds barred battle to the finish as he must choose between his death and the death of half of New York. Definetly for the action fans.
Flubbed the dvd
2006-06-26 - I remember seeing this many years ago and thinking this is decent sci-fi. The female menace is sort of hot looking and there is a genuine feeling of peril as she attacks. How did gregory Hines get this role? He did okay but he seemed an oddball choice for the lead role. Another one of those strange dvd disasters regarding the transfer. Its in fullscreen!(pan and scan) Where the heck is the widescreen? Someone doesnt care about the proper presentation of films. Nice sci-fi for a rainy Saturday afternoon, but wait for a widescreen transfer.
Hot 'Bot!
2000-09-04 - Eve is a veeery realistic-looking android babe with some nifty military hardware including a hot bod, and a nuclear bomb. What a woman! But when things go awry in her testing phase during a bank robbery, Eve winds up lost in the big city. Now, the rescue team, which includes the real (human) Eve and Gregory Hines, must find and disarm her before she goes "kerblooey." Of course Eve is programmed to protect herself at all costs, and virtually any-sized problem she is presented is met with her own brand of "Six Million Dollar Man"-esque ultra-violence, resulting in the destruction part of the film's title.
EXCELLENT FLICK
1999-12-27 - Great movie. Very underrated. The scene with the policemen in their yellow rain slickers gives me a big woodie!
