"A superb ensemble cast" (Daily News) including Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings films), Stockard Channing ("The West Wing"), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend's Wedding), Tim Quill (Army of Darkness) and Daphne Zuniga ("Melrose Place") highlights this stirring drama about three small-town brothers coming of age in a family rocked by crisis. After their father abruptly sells the beloved family-owned restaurant that has employed them for years, the charismaticMcDermott boyshot-tempered Brian (Quill), lovelorn Kit (Mulroney) and jokester Duncan (Astin)find themselves at odds with their parents and each other. But when an unexpected tragedy befalls the family, they are forced to confront their differences and adult responsibilities as they learn about love, sex, loyalty and the true meaning of brotherhood!

    Staying Together Reviews:
Small gem of a film with a great cast 4 Star Review
2009-08-15 - I remembered seeing this on cable quite a few years ago and decided to search this movie out and as luck would have it, I found it here on Amazon.com. The first reviewer "A Customer" describes this movie perfectly. Good actors seen in their younger days handling family and life situations that are seemingly real here like Melinda Dillon, Dermot Mulroney, Sean Astin, Daphne Zuniga, Stockard Channing, Dinah Manoff (a fav of mine from "Soap"). The characters are well defined and likable. The script is peppered with comedy, feeling and dialog you didn't usually find in films from the late 80's and early 90's. I don't buy many movies a year let alone older films but this was well worth the money I spent. Unforgettable scene: Sean Astin burying his face in a pantyhosed Dinah Manoff's large bosom while she's trying to change for work. Cheeky devil.

Master OF The Rare LASERDISCs Movies. 5 Star Review
    2005-07-11 - I have Staying Together ON LASER DISC,'Tis a great Movie,A MUST SEE :p

a wonderful surprise 5 Star Review
2002-11-12 - I had never heard of this film. Why not! I ran across it at a local video store, checked out the cast and director, and decided to rent it. // There is great good humor in this movie of brothers coming of age,and there is the correct amount of pathos in a family coming to terms with an unexpected death. // Lee Grant handles the cast and the story with a deft and knowing touch. But I ask again why wasn't this movie properly promoted.
