Editorial Review:
Like the Beatles and Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson is one of the handful of artists that can release an album of their number one singles. Number Ones includes his solo chart toppers in the UK and abroad from the period beginning with his Off the Wall album right up to the new song "One More Chance", a collaboration with R Kelly. The remaining 17 songs on the album are all classics drawn from the disco-soul Off the Wall, the funky Thriller, the good Bad, the safe Dangerous, the semi-best-of History and the weak Invincible. Regardless of whether the bulk of Number Ones has appeared on other greatest hits albums, this is still an incredible selection of Michael Jackson's best music. --Georgina Collins
Number Ones Reviews:
They loved this CD gift
2009-12-23 - Purchasing a gift like this on Amazon and having it automatically shipped to the recipient is almost too easy. It was priced very inexpensively and arrived on time, in good condition. For someone who owned Michael Jackson's Thriller album when it originally came out, this was a nostalgic blast from the past.
Michael For Beginners
2009-12-14 - There is no doubt about how horrible the death of Michael Jackson has hit the world wide open. There were so many people that personally stepped on him from his personal problems the past several years. Whether it was his child molestation trials, or because of media heartbreak from being a tabloid target. Yet, with all the things that were going on, it has definitely been so easy to simply forget how inspirational he has been for so many entertainers from Beyonce' to Britney Spears, all the way to today's entertainers that want to move like the way he danced his moonwalk. He truly was a trademark on the music industry. But, there are those whom are now looking for a Michael Jackson album of their own for their music library. Well, this is a simple starter.
Michael Jackson's 2003 Number Ones is a simple starter reflection of whom Jackson was, with his biggest hits from his solo efforts on Sony from 1979's Off The Wall, all the way to his final record, the lackluster Invincible from 2001. The collection of songs have all been remastered well, and include a lot of great songs from Jackson's catalog of songs. The collection does have some faults though by overlooking a few of his #1 hits, nevertheless. Still, most of the classics are here including Billie Jean, his deep and soulful Man In The Mirror, Bad and his 1991 classic Black Or White, which I loved the video for years ago. Sadly though, there were a few #1 songs of his that were unfortunately overshadowed like his duet with Paul McCartney, Say, Say, Say, Leave Me Alone, as well as his duet with his sister Janet Jackson, Scream. That actually though wasn't overshadowed on Janet's recently issued Number Ones collection last month. Instead, some of his lesser-known songs were highlighted like Break Of Dawn and his final original released recording before his death, One More Chance, which was a fair song, but anything outrageous.
All in all, despite a few flaws, Michael Jackson's Number Ones is still a simple and strong reintroduction to why Michael Jackson was one of the greatest entertainers' of the classic MTV generation. If you are a much more hard core Michael Jackson fan, I'd suggest a better Michael Jackson collection like 2005's Essential Michael Jackson. But if you've never owned a collection of songs from the late King Of Pop, than this would be a nice place to start.
