Description of Off the Wall:
Given the pace of Michael Jackson's post-Thriller release schedule, it's striking that Off the Wall appeared between two albums with his brothers, Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980), on which the twentysomething phenomenon was also fully engaged. Aided by richly detailed but not overdone production, Off the Wall redefined how much Michael might do.

Tracks like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Rock with You," the title cut (all Top 10 singles), and "Burn this Disco Out" not only consolidated his dance-floor power, but showed just how soulful and varied his vocals could get on uptempo material. Artistic role models like James Brown and Jackie Wilson echo through the mixes, but these were Jackson's leaps forward. The addition of pure pop confection--Paul McCartney's "Girlfriend," Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It"--further fleshed out the star's young-adult persona and helped make Off the Wall among the most fondly remembered of all his solo work. This special edition features two magic home demos and entertaining, insightful interviews of producer Quincy Jones and "Rock with You" composer Rod Temperton. --Rickey Wright

Off the Wall Reviews:
Excellent, one of MJ's best!!!!! 5 Star Review
2009-12-17 - All the songs on this CD are fantastic, especially the title track, "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough," "Working Day and Night," and "She's Out of My Life." Also of interest are the two home demo recordings of "Don't Stop till You Get Enough" and "Working Day and Night." Anyone who is an MJ fan simply MUST have this CD. A real classic.

More Ways to remember Michael 5 Star Review
2009-12-05 - It was great then...it's great now. This is how I want to remember Michael Jackson.

"You know that love survives, so we can rock forever..." 5 Star Review
2009-12-05 - Off the Wall is no doubt an unequivocal classic and easily one of the strongest pieces in Michael Jackson's catalogue. The album opens with "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," a track brimming with falsetto, percussion, and breezy harmonies. Written by Jackson himself, it is an early example of that unparalleled rhythm behind so much of his best work. While he often used that to express claustrophobic paranoia (as on "Billie Jean"), here the results are purely joyful. "Workin' Day and Night," also penned by Jackson, repeats the trick almost as well. Rod Temperton contributed three songs ("Off the Wall," "Burn this Disco Out," and "Rock with You"). They all rank among the best Michael ever recorded. The title track begins with a Thriller-like cackle before breaking down to an undeniable disco beat with a remarkably infectious chorus. "Burn this Disco Out" is the perfect album closer and showcases the rare deeper end of Michael's vocal range. Then there's "Rock with You," a contender for the greatest performance of his lifetime, his voice gently gliding along the endless grooves. "She's Out of My Life" is a stark and beautiful ballad. Stevie Wonder wrote the vibey "I Can't Help It," which initially seems inconsequential but ultimately proves just as expressive as the ballads and dance numbers. Michael didn't simply sing these songs; he inhabited them. His voice is an element within each track, and whenever it takes the forefront, it never sounds forced or superficial. Off the Wall is Michael Jackson at his most fun. It is arguably his only record with no strings attached: top to bottom disco and pop from one of the most talented teams in music history (Michael, producer Quincy Jones, and some phenomenal session musicians). The album is often cited as Jackson's best. While I personally believe that title belongs to Thriller, Off the Wall is equally essential. 5 Stars.

The Remastered edition features impeccable sound quality, two intriguing demos, and some less interesting interview clips with Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton.

Dy-no-mite!!! 5 Star Review
2009-11-30 - Outstanding work by Micheal and Quincy. Forever set Micheal apart from his talanted brothers and establish him as not only the most polished of the Jackson family at the time, but as a force to be wreckoned with. People who like soul music quickly got it. Those not familiar with MJ (belive it or not, they existed)soon found they had been been missing out.

My favorite MJ album 5 Star Review
2009-11-15 - We all know the hits, know all the songs on Thriller, Bad and Dangerous. I really liked Invincible but Off The Wall was the one cd I heard little about (plus I admit I wasn't even born yet when he released Off The Wall). So I ordered it from Amazon and imagine my surprise when Off The Wall turned out to be my favorite cd out of all the Michael Jackson albums I owned.

Off The Wall is great and does what a great cd should, gets you on the floor to dance and sing along. It's fun, it makes you feel good and every song is worth listening to. It's one of the rare cds where I play it through instead of skipping ahead to the songs I like.

Once I insert the cd into my stereo or laptop, it's guaranteed that I will play the cd at least twice. I'm definitely happy with my purchase and many will enjoy the bonus tracks where you can hear the demo of Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and Working Day and Night, plus interviews with Quincy Jones.
