Editorial Review:
Disc one features the original album masters of some of Michael's biggest hits such as "Billie Jean," "Smooth Criminal," "Human Nature," and "Thriller" arranged in the same sequence as they appear in the film. The disc ends with two versions of "This Is It," the original and an orchestral version. "This Is It" is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael's brothers, the Jacksons.
Disc two offers fans a rare listen to the early demo versions of classics "She's Out Of My Life," "Wanna Be Startin'," "Somethin'," and "Beat It." This disc also features a recently discovered spoken word poem from Michael Jackson entitled "Planet Earth."
Michael Jackson's This Is It also includes a 36-page, commemorative booklet featuring exclusive photos of Michael from his last rehearsal.
This Is It Reviews:
The love, the sound, the Michael!
2009-12-27 - After watching this movie/documentary I am (if it's possible) a bigger fan of MJ. Sourounding himself with the best he was given, this film surpassed my expectations! Again I am enthralled by the talent of the man. Having been listening to MJ since I was only a child one year older than him, I followed his career my entire life. Fascinated by every asspect of his life from the Jackson 5 to the present, I was never going to miss THIS IS IT. It did not dissapoint.
From the dancers, to the outstanding guitarist and musicians on the set, I am left feeling almost a spiritual expierence. The direction of Kenny Ortega and his crew left an observer to the rehearsals with a sense of family, church, and amazing respect. The craft and artistry it takes to put on a production this intense was made familar. We got to glimpse into the background of what true talent is.
When the final credits were done, I could not stop watching and listening. Only when the spotlight and footsteps of Michael stopped and the black screen was silent did I exhale with great satisfaction. I will be buying several copies and distributing them to the music lovers in my life. No matter what genre of music you enjoy, blues, ballads, orchestral, pop, rock and even heavy-metal, there is not a person that appriciates music who will not respect, enjoy and relate to some part of this film.
The important message of love and our Earth must be heard. The filmograghy and personal hands-on ness of Michael in these aspects of preparing for what would have been the greatest concert in the history of music, is sure to be awarded. Remakes of Thriller, Heal the World and Man in the Mirror brought me to tears.
When someone inspires with music and actions, as has Michael, it makes one believe, we each can make a difference.
Though this reviewer wishes his death had not happened, I am uplifted that (as I believe) he could actually feel each individuals hearts and minds after seeing this. Rest in peace Michael, for you did make a difference.
what a rip off..a real downer
2009-12-26 - my advice to anyone who already has a decent michael jackson compilation (ie essential michael jackson)...just download the songs from disc two...this product was just a quick cash in for his estate. they should have included the live rehearsal versions of the tunes, not the previously released stuff...i feel slightly ripped off...
THIS IS IT - bittersweet. Thanks MJ for your love!
2009-12-24 - The music, the music, the music! MJ was/is a genius. Listen over and over and hear something new each time, or just dance around the room. Either way, a treat.
Is This It?
2009-12-24 - The reason this album is shy of a star is the fact these songs are featured not only on his famous albums, but his greatest hits as well. These are songs that were supposed to be featured in his "This Is It" concert in London. I have to say that this compilation is a nice selection of his work. If you get the two cd version of this album you will get a beautiful rendition of "She is Out Of My Life" accompanied with acoustic guitar. Also the "Beat It" vocal track is interesting. It's all the harmonized parts sung without any instruments. I honestly do not know whether songs like the acoustic version of "She's Out Of My Life" and the live version of "Wanna Be Startin' Something" were sung recently by Michael. If the answer is yes than I am amazed of how his voice was eternally youthful. No signs of wearing down what so ever. As for the other famous studio songs like "Billie Jean", "Man In The Mirror" on this album what can I say? More likely you have heard any of his famous songs in your lifetime and I am sure you have your own opinion.
BEST MUSIC CD EVER!!
2009-12-21 - I purchased the Michael Jackson's Music CD " This is IT" because I wanted something to remember the "King Of Pop!" This album does not disappoint and the music is "Right ON!" Rest in Peace MJ and may his music LIVE ON!!!
