Editorial Review:
Many familiar faces from the smash hit 'Grease' return to the campus, and the new ones are equally memorable in this happy tribute to straight skirts, girl-chasing and young love. It's 1961, two years after the original Grease gang graduated from Rydell High, and there's a new crop of seniors. The Pink Ladies and the T-Birds are still the epitome of cool, except that over the summer, something's happened to Stephanie (Michelle Pfeiffer in her first starring role), the sorority leader. She feels she's outgrown Johnny (Adrian Zmed), the head T-Bird, and is looking for a new love--one who's even hotter. Meanwhile, newcomer Michael (Maxwell Caulfield) is smitten with Stephanie, who won't even notice him. The conflict is on and the Rydell High fun takes off to new heights.
Description of Grease 2:
Too often, sequels to popular films simply rehash the original film; call it the carbon-copy syndrome. Grease 2 suffers from no such malady, having almost nothing to do with the original film. Sure, it focuses on teens at Rydell High, the imaginary school from the first film, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. But other than a few of the teachers, all of the characters are new and so are the songs--and more's the pity. By the time Grease hit the big screen, it already had had almost a decade as a theatrical musical, more than enough time to hone its mock-rock & roll score. But this sequel, which stars among others a then-unknown Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, and Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's daughter), has music that's neither fish nor fowl, neither rock nor Broadway. Meanwhile, the plot is a reversal of the first film, in which a cool guy fell for a square girl. In this one, the square is newcomer Caulfield, who catches the eye of tough girl Pfeiffer and her Pink Lady gang. The appearance of such pseudo-stars of the '50s, like Tab Hunter, is supposed to lend a nostalgic kick, but let's just say that Grease 2 slides almost instantly into obscurity. --Marshall Fine
Grease 2 Reviews:
great movie
2008-09-10 - Yeah, Okay. It has been said the second coming is not as great as the first. Disagree. Grease 2 Hit a number 1 in my book. It has the characters we have all dreamed of being at one time or another, especially Michael, he wants the girl that doesn't want him, until finally he goes over the top to win her heart and succeeds. The movie doesn't really start out this way until about halfway through and then you figure it out. The hero reveals himself in a way that kind of makes you say "what, that's it?" But you soon realize there was no better way to do it than to just do it. The performances were great, the music was upbeat and followed the story quite well. It takes you into an alternate reality that you somehow wish you could be a part of, but only to an extent. I highly recommend this movie.
Really Bad..
2008-07-19 - This movie is so bad but I love it! I hate to admit that I am the first person singing "Cool Rider". Maxwell Caufield is original eye candy! Guy is so gorgeous that I couldn't figure out Michelle's problem..Any way, some of the musical numbers leave me speechless because they are so bad.. Like the bomb shelter song...OMG, it was awful! But that Max and Michelle-I love you, guys.
It's Predecessor is what Kills it, cause Grease 2 does have Heart
2008-02-23 - Now let's get right to the point: the problem with Grease 2 is the succes of it's predecessor. Grease was a fun film that captured the hearts of many moviegoers back in the 70's and still captures a lot of hearts today.
Grease 2 is without the first one's stars, but introduces the audience to new faces. Now this element is what people didn't like.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield were given the hard task to fill the shoes of Travolta and Newton John. They do this with great charm, are easily liked and form the true beating heart of the film. Pfeiffer does a good job as the pink lady Stephanie in one of her first big movies. She also sings her own songs, with succes.
Caulfield plays Sandy's (Yes, the Sandy from the first one) cousin who comes to Rydell High School to find himself falling in love with a girl that is ungettable in his position. Just like Pfeiffer, Caulfield's way of acting and the fun he brings to the role make this film enjoyable.
As head of the T-birds the cool Adrian Zmed was given the part and gives a fun and cool performance. He clearly had a great time on set while filming.
The film has a lot of fun new songs which are well written and have the quality to get stuck in your head.
Grease 2 may not be as good as it's predecessor: it is a fun ride that shows the magic of the movie musical.
So, try to forget the first Grease movie for a while and look at it as a standalone film. Cause then you'll see that the charm, the music and the actors bring to life a film that is definitely worth the watch.
Grease 2 has begun to become more popular as time goes by. A lot of people finally start to see what this movie is all about: Fun!
This movie makes suicide look appealing.
2008-02-22 - Id rather get terminal cancer then have my eyes cross this abortion of a film. I dont know if you can give fewer than 1 star but please know that if I had a time machine i would go back and brutally murder this writer/director. Ive never hated anything more......EVER!
I'll Be Your Girl For ALL Seasons!
2008-01-17 - What can you say about this movie that hasn't already been said? I LOVE this movie. It's definitely a Guilty pleasure of mine. I watch the first one and well...you just want to watch this one after.
It an overall feel good movie, campy fun with laughter and tears. You get a little bit of everything in this movie.
Not much like the first, some of the same characters, but still that same feeling of high school back when! And it has Michelle Pfeiffer in it in one of her earliest roles! She does a tremendous job!
A great movie for so many occaisions! Watch it! I bet you'll love it just as much as I do. It's silly humor and characters that you can't help but love make this movie a winner from begining to end.
It's great for so many age groups too!
