    Scarface (1983)
This sprawling epic of bloodshed and excess, Brian De Palma's update of the classic 1932 crime drama by Howard Hawks, sparked controversy over its outrageous violence when released in 1983. Scarface is a wretched, fascinating car wreck of a movie, starring Al Pacino as a Cuban refugee who rises to the top of Miami's cocaine-driven underworld, only to fall hard into his own deadly trap of addiction and inevitable assassination. Scripted by Oliver Stone and running nearly three hours, it's the kind of film that can simultaneously disgust and amaze you (critic Pauline Kael wrote "this may be the only action picture that turns into an allegory of impotence"), with vivid supporting roles for Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Robert Loggia. --Jeff Shannon

    Scarface (1932)
Howard Hawks's Scarface was one of the first "talkies" to reclaim the fluidity of the late-silent masterpieces, while also tapping into a feral new energy that came with talking smart and moving smarter on the motion picture screen. Outgunning such contemporaries as Little Caesar and The Public Enemy--in terms of both its ferocious death-dealing and dynamic style--the movie was interfered with by censors and kept out of circulation for decades thanks to its eccentric producer, Howard Hughes. It remains the gold standard among classic gangster pictures. Paul Muni's portrayal of Al Capone surrogate Tony Camonte etched a screen original: a merciless assassin who's not only reflexively criminal but pre-civilized, almost pre-evolutionary, a simian shadow ready to rub out the world if he can't have it for his own. This is still one of the greatest, darkest, most deeply exciting films American cinema has produced. Those demonically ubiquitous X's--starting with that titular scar gouged into Tony's cheek--rival "Rosebud" for resonance. --Richard T. Jameson

Possibly THE WORST Movie Ever Made!!! 2 Hours 49 Minutes Of F-Bombs. What A WASTE Of Talent. 1 Star Review
2008-12-02 - I wanted to see this film just to see what the big deal was about this film being called "The Greatest movie ever made." Baloney (and that's putting it very mildly). This film is simply a waste of time & talent. 2 hours, 49 minutes of f-bombs spewed everywhere. I don't mind watching a movie with profanity & violence, but there's got to be a good storyline to go with it (the "Lethal Weapon" movies, for example) This movie was utterly a waste of my time. I ain't seeing it again. The Greatest Movie Of All Time?!!! B.S.!!! "Beauty And The Beast" is the greatest movie ever made (I grew up watching it, so naturally I'm in favour of it). I love "Gone With The Wind" & I personally think all the classics (and
"Beauty And The Beast" is certainly a classic) are much better, both enrtertainment & moral-wise, than this 2 hour 49 minute p.o.s. Maybe "The Godfather" films are also better than this (at least those movies also have coherent storylines, not just a smattering of f-bombs). Rated R for non-stop strong profanity throughout, some violence and brief nudity.

Diss ees a gray mobie mang 3 Star Review
2008-09-15 - I think the movie is only truly enjoyable as a demented version of I Love Lucy... but that's me.

You Can't Seriously Like This Movie 1 Star Review
2008-08-23 - I'm sure I'll get a lot of people telling me my opinion's wrong, simply because I dislike a movie they apparently adore. In my personal opinion, I've never seen what all the fuss is about as to me, Scarface is the most boring, pointless and drawn out travesty I've ever had the misfortune of watching.

The story is based around Cuban (at least I think he's Cuban, it was so boring I drifted in and out) immigrant named Tony Montana. He comes into America and for some reason wants to be a successful drug dealer, so this leads to a man's arm being cut off by a chainsaw for some reason. Then there's a couple of hours of boring dialogue with the odd gunshot here and there, then Tony says "Say hello to my little friend" and kills a load of people. The End.

I am honestly the type of person who will watch a film and look for the good points, but I simply couldn't see any for this film. It was boring, drawn out and just plain ridiculous. A lot of the people I know personally who adore this film aren't very, let's say quick witted so I can only imagine that in order for them to watch this all the way through, they had to skip to the gory or violent parts.

Boring film that I would advise people to stay away from.

    GREAT 5 Star Review
2008-08-20 - Directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, "Scarface" is a movie that will not be forgotten. A Cuban refugee named Tony Montana (Pacino) comes to America for the American Dream. Montana then becomes the "king" in the drug world as he ruthlessly runs his empire of crime in Miami, Florida. This gangster movie is very violent, and some scenes are unpleasant to watch. This movie has around 180+ F-words and is almost three hours long. This movie is entertaining and you will never get bored. You cheer for the Drug-lord, and in some scenes you find out that Montana isn't as evil as some other Crime Lords. This is a masterpiece and i recommend that you see this. You will not be disappointed.
